Smith has a brilliant resume at Rangers

Smith coached at Goodison for four years from 1998 to 2002. But his most illustrious resume was at Rangers, where he led the team to 10 Scottish League titles, five Scottish Cups and six Scottish League Cups, as well as reaching the final of the UEFA Cup in 2008.

Smith also managed Scotland from 2004 to 2007 and briefly served as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant coach at Manchester United in the 03-04 season.

In a statement from Rangers Club, we write: "We are deeply saddened to announce the death of our former manager, president and club legend Walter Smith.

Chairman Douglas Parker said: "On behalf of the club's board, staff and players, I would like to express my deep condolences to Smith's family. Walter left his wife, children, and grandchildren away, and we were all thinking and praying at this difficult time. ”

"It's almost impossible to simply summarize what Walter means to our team and to each of us. His character and leadership skills are second to none, he has been a first-team manager twice and will be remembered by everyone he has worked with. ”

In 2011, Smith completed his final game in charge of rangers in heavy rain

"Just last weekend, I talked to Walter. Even when he was battling the disease, he was still able to provide us with advice and support. I am personally grateful for this. I know he's been in dialogue and contact with the club, including our head coach Steven Gerrard. All of us on rangers will miss Walter terribly. ”

"As head coach he won 10 top-flight titles, 5 Scottish Cups and 6 League Cups and led his club to the 2008 UEFA Cup final, he will be remembered by football around the world. For Rangers supporters, however, he is more than just a football coach. Walter was a mentor to many, a leader, an ambassador, and most importantly — a legend. ”
