Special event to commemorate the opening ceremony of Milos Foreman

This year's Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will open to mourn the recently deceased Czech director Milos Fuhrman, and this year's opening film will feature Foreman's legendary comedy The Love of the Blonde. Blonde Love is an important work of the Czech New Wave and was highly sought after at numerous film festivals in the late 1960s. In addition, it was also the opening film of the 1966 New York Film Festival, and was nominated for the Academy Award and golden globe award for best foreign language film the following year.

The people next door unit is on display for the third year

For the third consecutive year, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will feature the People Section Next Door. The partner of this unit is the Sirius Foundation - the official non-profit partner of the 53rd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The People Next Door Unit – a unit about people with disabilities, this year will focus on people with hearing impairments.

Every year, the festival night is held on Wednesday – and this year it's on July 4. This time, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Night will be performed by singer Ewa Farna and her band, as well as the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra. A symphonic version of Farna's song will also be performed. Of course, the performance will also bring the hit song "Dobré ráno, milá", which was nominated for the 2017 Anděl Music Awards.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the independence of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will feature poetic documentaries from the Baltic region. Unit Reflection Time: The Baltic Poetic Documentary will consist of 6 short and medium-length films and 2 documentary feature films. The works date back to the Baltic New Wave of the 1960s and include the world premiere of Lithuanian filmmaker Audrius Stonys and his Latvian colleague Kristine Briede's documentary Bridges of Time.

The digital restoration of The Diamond of the Night was screened

It has been 54 years since the release of Jan Niemetz's Night Diamond, and under restoration by Universal Production Partners and Soundsquare studio, a digitally restored version of Night Diamond will be screened at this year's Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The film will also be screened at this year's Cannes Film Festival, the second Czech film to be screened in the Classics section of Cannes.

The winning film will be screened on July 8

Due to the enthusiastic demand of the audience, the 53rd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will once again offer a special Sunday screening of the winning films. This year's winning film will be screened at the Spa Hotel on Sunday, July 8. Three films from this year's festival, including the Crystal Globe Award winner (Best Picture), will be aired at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Movie tickets will go on sale on July 7 and July 8, when they can be purchased at designated ticket offices.
