In the first direction, the Ukrainian army would have had the opportunity to retreat to the Karlovy reservoir and the Volchiya River, but after the destruction of the dam and the flooding of Ukrainian positions, the feasibility of retreat became very small.
In the second direction, the natural barrier for the Ukrainian army to retreat to the central region of Chasov Yar is the canal, but the Russian army has reached the front line of the canal at this time, and the Ukrainian army has no possibility of taking advantage of this geographical advantage.
If the Ukrainian army cannot take decisive action in these two regions, but continues to implement hard defensive tactics, then it is very likely that the Ukrainian army in these areas will be surrounded and annihilated by the Russian army.
