Gao Haiyan, born in 1991 in Jiaxing, is a Chinese sailing athlete. In 2013, she won the women's Class 470 title at the World Cup Regatta in Australia, China's first World Cup gold medal in the Class 470. In 2016, she won the Women's Class 470 at the National Sailing Championships, and in 2018, she won the silver medal in the Women's Class 470 at the Jakarta Asian Games.
Since joining the provincial sailing team, this is Gao Haiyan's 16th year as a sailing athlete. Change from athletics to open the sea
In 2002, Gao Haiyan, who was still in the fifth grade of primary school, was selected by Coach Zhang Qingguo because of her thin and tall stature, and entered the Jiaxing City Junior Sports School training and learning hurdles. Soon after, she entered the throwing group with Coach Gong Yaqin. After practicing track and field for 3 years, Gao Haiyan was favored by the provincial sailing team, and she changed careers at a young age, and since then she has opened a strange relationship at sea.
"At that time, I didn't even know what sailing was, but I was simply curious about the project and the sea." It is worth mentioning that in order to encourage Gao Haiyan to practice sailing projects, Zhang Qingguo also gave her a notebook with a famous quote from the famous former Soviet writer Gorky's "Haiyan" - let the storm come more fiercely!
In December 2005, Gao Haiyan officially came to the provincial sailing team. "It was my first contact with the sea, and the boundlessness and grandeur of the sea, as well as the veteran team members setting sail one by one in front of me, all of these scenes deeply attracted me." Never stop and do your best to make a breakthrough
Just two years after the change of career, Gao Haiyan, who was only 16 years old at the time, successfully won the National Youth Sailing Championship. In 2013, at the World Cup regatta in Australia, she and her teammate Chen Shasha won the crown, which was also China's first world cup gold medal in the 470 class of sailing. Since then, the name Gao Haiyan has begun to make a name for itself internationally.
For more than ten years, Gao Haiyan has won a lot of championships large and small, but she has never stopped, and behind the championships, there is a mixture of sweat. For Gao Haiyan, training takes up most of the time, with 4-5 hours of special training at sea every day, and 2-3 hours of physical training, including aerobic and strength training. After a lap down, the body was already tired and overdrawn, "This kind of suffering you can't understand." Gao Haiyan said it lightly, but from her dark cheeks and rough palms, it was not difficult to find the hard marks of fighting under the hot sun.
Today, Gao Haiyan has become a reserve party member, and she is more strict with herself in her life inside and outside the field. "There are many veteran party members in the national team, and I have always aspired to be a person like them, and on the field, I will definitely work hard for Zhejiang and the motherland and do my best."
For the future, Gao Haiyan also has a clear vision, and like her partner Wei Mengxi, they both want to make history in the Olympic Games and stand on the podium. For the National Games, gold medal is the only goal.
The support of the "family" is an inexhaustible motivation
Looking at Gao Haiyan's circle of friends, you will find that her dynamics not only have training and competitions, but also show her cooking skills in her leisure time. But she is good at decorating her life with food, and she has also been trapped by her "appetite". "Because my role is that of a squire, if I am too light, if I am affected by the wind in the competition, it will lead to fluctuations in performance. So for a while, in order to meet the weight standard, I could only increase my weight by eating non-stop, and if I ate too much, I would inevitably feel sick to my stomach. However, Gao Haiyan felt that although the process was not easy, she knew very well the importance of physical fitness standards for sailing players, so she finally persevered.
Taking advantage of the rare holiday, when returning to Jiaxing, Gao Haiyan will always go to the junior sports school to see. She would take her own baking pieces and ask the instructors and teachers to taste them. Although the time of reunion is short, it can bring everyone infinite joy. Once, Gong Yaqin took her to the teacher's office and proudly said to the other teachers: "The eldest daughter is back!" In fact, the difference in age between the two masters and apprentices is only 12 years, but the feelings between them have long exceeded the ordinary master-apprentice relationship.
