In 1985, Li Xiannian visited the United States and asked Lu Lanqin to stand next to him when taking photos at the embassy

From July 22 to 31, 1985, then President Li Xiannian paid a state visit to the United States. This is the first visit of a Chinese head of state to the United States and the first state visit of the president to North America, and it has been solemnly received and welcomed by the Governments of Canada and the United States.

When a national leader visits abroad, he must visit the embassy of the host country to inspect and offer condolences, which is a common practice. Diplomats have been far away from the motherland for many years and stationed in foreign countries, and the hardships and difficulties are difficult for non-experiencers to understand.

When Li Xiannian met with the staff of the Embassy in the United States, he was particularly enthusiastic about Lu Lanqin, who was not very senior at that time. When all the staff took pictures together, they called Lu Lanqin to his side. At that time, in the embassy, there were a large number of people with more seniority than Lu Lanqin's official position, and they did not understand or even be satisfied with Lu Lanqin's position. But because of What Li Xiannian had commanded, there was nothing he could do.

Some people learned afterwards that Li Xiannian had a relationship with Lu Lanqin's father.

Lu Lanqin's original surname was Rao, and Lu was her mother's surname.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Li Xiannian served as the commander of the Fifth Division of the New Fourth Army, while Lu Lanqin's father was the political commissar of the New Fourth Army, and later he also served as the secretary of the East China Bureau and the first secretary of the municipal party committee after the liberation of Shanghai, and was Li Xiannian's real boss. In the popular words of the jianghu, Lu Lanqin can at least be regarded as the daughter of Li Xiannian's deceased, and that friendship is not something that anyone can have.
