The positioning of the Guangzhou Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Research Institute is to build a new type of think tank with Chinese characteristics. In order to accelerate the implementation of the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" on the goal of "supporting the mainland to strengthen cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao think tanks and provide intellectual support for the development of the Greater Bay Area", as early as April this year, relying on Professor Zheng Yongnian's working team, the Guangzhou Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Research Institute was jointly initiated by 6 well-known enterprises in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao, such as Guangzhou Automobile Group, Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group and Yuexiu Group, and finally settled in Guangzhou International Port and Shipping Center in Huangpu District.

"The Guangzhou Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Research Institute will strive to do three things well." Zheng Yongnian, chairman of the Academic Committee of the Institute of Public Policy At South China University of Technology, was elected chairman of the institute, and he said that the first thing was to do something for the development of Guangzhou. The second is to do something about the integration of Guangzhou with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The third thing is to do something to promote the integration of Hong Kong and Macao into the overall development of the motherland. The Guangzhou Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Research Institute should embark on a healthy and sustainable development path, not only to provide valuable policy advice for government decision-makers, but also to provide policy advice for corporate decision-makers.

In addition to Zheng Yongnian as chairman, the institute also elected Lin Yifu, dean of the Institute of New Structural Economics of Peking University, Li Daokui, dean of the Institute of Economic Thought and Practice of Tsinghua University, Lu Ming, distinguished professor of Antai School of Economics and Management of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhang Jun, dean of the School of Economics of Fudan University, and Yao Yang, dean of the National Institute of Development Studies of Peking University, as directors, and other experts and scholars, with a total of 17 directors in the first batch.
