Hefei, 26 Oct (Xinhua) -- According to news from the Discipline Inspection Commission of Bozhou City, Anhui Province, on 26 October, the Bozhou City Intermediate People's Court made a first-instance judgment on the same day against Wang Hui, former deputy inspector of the Anhui Provincial Public Security Department, sentencing him to 14 years' imprisonment and a fine of 1.5 million yuan for the crime of accepting bribes.

The court found that from 2009 to 2012, when defendant Wang Hui was the secretary of the party committee and director of the Tongling Municipal Public Security Bureau, he took advantage of his position to accept the entrustment and seek benefits for the trustee in land development and case handling. From 2012 to 2017, Wang Hui solicited and illegally accepted a total of 14,874,425 yuan of other people's property.

At trial, the court held that Wang Hui, as a state functionary, took advantage of his position to seek benefits for others; took advantage of his own authority or position to seek improper benefits for the trustee through the acts of other state functionaries in his position, and solicited and illegally accepted property from others, the amount of which was particularly huge, and his behavior constituted the crime of accepting bribes. Wang Hui has demanded bribes and should be given a heavier punishment. Since his family has returned all the stolen goods on his behalf, a lenient punishment may be given as appropriate.

The court comprehensively considered the facts of Wang Hui's crime, the nature and circumstances of the crime, and the degree of harm to society, and made the above judgment in accordance with law. (End)
