Oegopsida, also known as Squid, has 5 families, namely:
Chiroteuthoidea (41 species, carcass and tentacles are thin and long)
Small-headed squid family/Cranchioidea (37 species, with a particularly short head)
Ommastrephoidea (25 species, carcass-conical)
Clawed Squid Family /Onychoteuthoidea (148 species, only tentacle spikes with hooks)
Rhomboid Squid Family/Thysanoteuthoidea (1 species, very special flesh fins)
Squid is generally regarded as a common name in Chinese mainland, and taiwan has the name of the purpose of squid; moreover, the choice of scientific names by Taiwanese scholars seems to be disorderly, some species will be called squid, and the other will use squid; the Chinese wiki is mostly compiled by Taiwanese, so many articles are quite confusing, such as squid also annotated by gun squid.
The five general departments of the eye-opening eye, the figure is self-compiled
There are a total of 252 species in 24 families under the general family, which is the largest branch of cephalopods.
The open-eye species are extremely rich in form, ranging from the longest and largest squid on earth to the world's smallest squid; the fastest swimmer in the cephalopod world is also in this order, some even flying, although the flexibility may not be as good as other species; many members also have hooks on the wrists, indicating that they are more aggressive, more brutal, cannibalism and even an instinct.
Maximum and smallest, the diagram is self-compiled
Many classifications have been greatly adjusted in the past due to the eye-opening new classifications, which have not yet gained most recognition; coupled with the increasing development of technology, the classification is constantly updated... It is difficult to draw conclusions about this and dissect them one by one, so this article only lists some common eye-opening cephalopods.
The most common is the family Lentille:
The family Ichthyosaurus is also known as the Squid family. Although it is a general family, there is only one family, Ommastrephidae; this family is divided into 3 subfamilies, namely: Subfamily Ommastrephine (4), Subfamily Ommastrephinae (11), Subfamily Ommastrephinae (11), Subfamily Ommastrephinae (10).
In contrast to the Squid family, the family Ichthyosauridae is small in males and large in females.

Argentine slippery soft fish / Illex argentinus, also known as Argentine squid, commonly known as Argentine shortfin squid. It is found mainly in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean and is one of the most important squid species in the world. Mature carcasses are between 38–40 cm long; the living mantle membrane is brown, with a distinctly thick black band in the center of the carcass, and 2 columns of extra-large suction cups in the middle of the tentacle spikes.
When did China start snapping in the region? Different literature has different data, some say 93 years, some say 97 years.

Pacific folded softfish / Todarodes pacificus, also known as real squid, Japanese squid or Korean squid, commonly known as northern squid, rocket fish, Oriental squid, etc., known in English as Japanese flying squid or Common flying squid. It is mainly distributed in the sea around Japan, and the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea also have a certain density, as far as the Gulf of Alaska, south and north of Hainan Island; the temperature is wide, and the eggs are laid in all seasons. The carcass has a thick dark brown band in the center of the carcass, and the common carcass is about 30 cm long, the longest is 50 cm, and the further south it goes, the shorter it becomes. The meat is hard and is mostly used to make dried squid, squid shreds and so on.

Flight principle:
As the English name suggests, the northern squid is also a flying squid – it can fly on the surface of the sea without just gliding! The principle is first to expand the mantle membrane and inhale a large amount of seawater; then through the funnel high pressure to produce a strong thrust; after shooting out of the water, the meat fin will also manipulate the direction like a flapping wing, while the tentacles are arranged in a spiral to increase thrust, and the carpal membrane can also produce a certain boost. Up to 30 meters recorded! The speed is 11.2 m/s, compared to 10.31 m/s for humans.
It is also explained that step (2) is that the funnel and the carcass spray water at the same time, and the figure is self-compiled
Ommastrephes bartramii, also known as softfish, is commonly known as red squid or red squid, and the English Red squid or Neon flying squid. It is found in subtropical and temperate regions around the world, and is also found in the Mediterranean Sea, but it is relatively rare. The living mantle membrane is dark purple-red with a distinctive silver band (sometimes inconspicuous) on the abdomen; the large suction cup ring of the tentacle spike has a large pointed tooth every 90°, with 7-10 small teeth between the teeth; unlike the gun squid, the weak luminous apparatus of the soft fish is not located in the internal organs, but on the ventral surface of the body surface. According to FAO data, females in the North Atlantic and southern hemispheres can reach up to 90 cm in length and males up to 40 cm, while in the North Pacific the females are up to 60 cm long and males are 40–45 cm long.
Soft fish is also a flying squid, and together with the northern squid, it is the main soft fish catch species in the East Yellow Sea and the coastal waters of Japan.
In 2020, by assessing the mitochondrial DNA of softfish in almost all seas, it was shown that there was not only one species, but four species of softfish, so the previous three isomys of the genus were revised into species.

Dosidicus gigas, also known as the American squid, is commonly known as the Peruvian squid, and the Humboldt squid is based on the English humboldt squid. The American squid is a large squid that can reach a total length of up to 2.5 meters, the carcass is up to 1.2 meters long, generally 50-80 cm, the maximum weight is 50 kg, and usually 20-30 kg. Although the Peruvian squid has a loose flesh and an unpopular sour taste, it is one of the largest and most abundant species of squid to date because of its rapid growth and wide distribution, and is often used to make canned or bait.
The American squid is also a flying squid, but its flight distance is very limited, with the longest recorded 40 kg flying 1.2 meters.

Squid /Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis, also known as southern squid and Oran iris, English Pureback squid; is a species of the genus Iris squid in the subfamily Softfish subfamily; it is mainly distributed in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific Ocean. As the English name indicates, the live iris squid is generally purple-red; its tentacle spike suckers have different arrangements and shapes in different positions; the carcass can reach 65 cm long and weigh 8.5 kg. The main fishing ground of Iris squid is located in the Indian Ocean, which has great resource potential and good development prospects.

Next, a brief introduction to the more famous eye-opening cephalopods of several non-soft fish.
King Squid / Architeuthis dux, also known as King Squid, English Giant Squid, the only species in the Great King Squid family. It is found in the Deep Sea of the North Atlantic and the North Pacific. The living bodies that are occasionally witnessed by humans are not very large, and scholars can only speculate on their size extremes based on the remains: the longest female is about 12-13 meters, the carcass is about 4 meters long, and the heaviest can reach 275 kilograms, and the male is about 10 meters long and weighs 150 kilograms; and the legendary 20 meters or more, there is no scientific record to support it.
The King Squid is the prototype of Kraken.

Bottom right: On December 24, 2015, a young king squid about 3.7 meters long got lost in a port in Tokyo, and many people were able to watch, take pictures and videos at close range! The king squid was finally led to the sea by a diver, safe and sound.

Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni, also known as the Great King Squid, Antarctic King Squid or Giant Gun Squid, English Colossal Squid, small-headed squid, is also a deep-sea giant squid, mainly living in the waters around Antarctica, more mysterious than the King Squid! So far, only one adult king squid weighing 495 kg has been captured in 2007, initially estimated to be 10 meters long, and later measured at 4.2 meters (possibly contracted), but from the observation of the beak fragments in the abdomen of sperm whales, scholars generally believe that there are larger sizes.

Writing here, it can be seen that there are 3 types of cephalopods (giant octopus, king squid, Mace squid) called sea monsters (snake-haired banshee Medusa, Norwegian sea monster Kraken, etc.), in fact, most of the prototypes of these sea monsters are in reality, but they are exaggerated. It is also easy to distinguish these giant cephalopods, their body shapes are not similar, the biggest features are: octopus eight-legged, the king is thin, Andth is fatter.

How to understand squid and gun squid, squid and soft fish?
From a consumption point of view, closing and opening the eyes are all about squid. However, academically, the closed-eye cephalopods are mainly called gun squid, the open-eye cephalopods are mainly called soft fish, and the Taiwan region is accustomed to writing the scientific name as squid; in classification, squid, gun squid and cuttlefish are called squid, but traditionally, people are used to calling cuttlefish squid. English Squid is translated as squid on the classification, but in the English world, Squid also has a narrow sense, which refers specifically to squid; in addition, if it refers to food, the English name of squid is also called calari.
The Chinese and English names of cuttlefish and squid, the picture is self-compiled
Interestingly, the different depictions of squid in ancient times, East and West, may reflect the different emphases of the two cultures.
Aristotle is probably the first person to describe the squid, he described the squid as a sea monster, and most of the scholars in the future also treated this behemoth from the perspective of hunting or research; and in China, the squid first appeared in the "Explanation of The Text" compiled by Xu Shen in the Eastern Han Dynasty, called the squid, but the later literati basically started from the perspective of the tip of the tongue, "the flower branches are pointed, the meat is tender and crisp", "the soft fish is shaped like a squid, and the taste of dry wine is the most beautiful"...

After all, we still have the genes of foodies in our blood, so it is no wonder that this series of dissection articles is not welcome [stupid].
As for cephalopod dishes, such as octopus grilled, cuttlefish balls, flower branch soup, sea rabbit sauce, etc., I will wait for the opportunity to write again later.
