"Recording China's biodiversity with images and disseminating the beauty of China's nature"

In recent years, environmental awareness has become more and more popular, and the protection of wildlife has received more and more attention. We can feel the results of the protection work, such as the fact that the smog problem has indeed been alleviated, and the blue sky days every year are much more than those when the smog is the most serious. Wildlife conservation is far away for most people.

Most of the wild animals grow in a remote, inaccessible, relatively native environment, and it is not easy to investigate and protect them. Organizations interested in wildlife conservation often need to overcome difficulties that are unimaginable to ordinary people in order to successfully carry out their work. The Imaging Biological Survey is one such organization dedicated to the conservation and documentation of wildlife.

The Imaging Bio-Survey, or IBE for short, is a nature imaging agency founded in 2009 by a group of professional photographers. In the past 10 years, photographers have traveled all over half of China, walked more than 300,000 kilometers, carried out 94 image surveys, and accumulated more than 8,000 days of field work, "recording China's biodiversity with images and disseminating the beauty of China's nature."

From the more than 8,000 species and more than 300,000 pictures taken, they selected a batch of the most precious wildlife images, and combined with the brief species introduction and shooting instructions in Chinese and English, they produced this very thick "Chinese Natural Image History".

In the film industry, director Lu Chuan has always been concerned about wildlife conservation. In 2004, he used the movie "Coco Xili" to show us the thrilling protection of Tibetan antelope, protecting people and the natural environment, fighting with poachers, and hanging on the line at any time. In 2016, he used the movie "We Were Born in China" to show the efforts and struggles of wildlife to survive, touching people's hearts.

The "Chinese Natural Image Chronicle" is recorded in the form of images, which all of the wild and rare creatures in China are included, which are divided into mammals, birds, plants, insects and butterflies, two climbs and fish, and underwater organisms. These photos capture the most natural and frank side of the wildlife, they are either lonely, or alert, or leisurely, or soft, showing people the ingenuity of nature's creation, but also let people appreciate the wild beauty of the original ecological creatures.

The hard work of the photographers has been condensed into the previous statistics, and their results are gratifying. Every image in this "Chinese Natural Image Chronicle" is particularly precious. The Longchuan little tree frog is a mysterious species that is accustomed to living in the shrubs of supermarkets, and it is difficult to catch them. Team member Hou Mian had the privilege of photographing a small tree frog in Longchuan that was chirping. The bulging sacs are really cute.

In addition, the book contains a variety of new species discovered by the team of photographers. For example, in the Nanga Bawa Peak area of the Brahmaputra Grand Canyon, the last secret place in the world, the white-cheeked macaque photographed by team member Li Cheng was identified by researchers as a new species. In addition, there are limestone willow warblers photographed by the team in Chongzuo, Guangxi in 2009, and the red spot alpine abdomen photographed by the team members at the source of the Yangtze River in 2012. The Mekong carp photographed by the team members in the xishuangbanna tropical rainforest also filled the record gap of domestic freshwater fish.

IBE's professional photographers always try to capture the most vibrant, stunning and adorable moments of wildlife. In the image description of each picture, the photographer always briefly describes the situation at the time of shooting, so that the reader seems to be in the scene at that time, pressing the shutter with the photographer, and admiring the living wave of the creature under the lens. Every image is an interesting story.

Photographer Guo Liang photographed a male sheep in Shannan, Tibet, like a lonely king, standing proudly on a high hill and guarding its flock; in the Dandong Wetland, he photographed a roe deer chasing a car curiously and galloping up; and in the Shiqu area of Sichuan in autumn, he caught a cute longitudinal-bellied owl, which observed the pika that might become its prey in the sunlight, but couldn't help but start taking a nap. Photographer Huang Yifeng captured a scene of two unconvinced sika deer in Taiwan subspecies colliding. Photographer Peng Jiansheng happened to meet a curious and soft little shrew by the Tuotuo River at the source of the Yangtze River, standing up and staring fearlessly at the camera.

Animals and plants that are good at mimesis and camouflage are the guests under the photographer's lens. A pink orchid mantis, lying quietly on a green leaf, at first glance, thought it was a beautiful little flower. This scene was frozen in the lens in time by photographer Fan Yi. Photographer Lei Bo found the legendary Dianye In Pu'er, Yunnan, it is like a green leaf that fell unintentionally, if you don't carefully distinguish it, you will really be deceived by it.

The variety of wild creatures was presented to us through the painstaking photography of photographers and the production of this "Chinese Natural Image Chronicle". Filming, recording, and collating the diversity data and information of wildlife, and sharing these precious images and videos with everyone, so that everyone can appreciate the beauty of nature, which is the purpose of the Imaging Biological Survey Institute and an important part of wildlife conservation. In the future, it is hoped that the imaging biological survey can produce more excellent works of natural history for readers.
