China's Jiangsu network on December 30, recently, Kunshan Inspection and Quarantine Bureau quarantine personnel intercepted a kind of weevil organism in the inbound container, after the Jiangsu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau Plant Inspection Laboratory experts identified, confirmed as China's prohibited quarantine pest - white edge weevil. This is the first time that the insect has been intercepted at the Kunshan port.

According to quarantine personnel, the white-edged weevil belongs to Coleoptera, which is mainly distributed in South Africa, the United States and South America, endangering nearly 400 kinds of host plants in more than 40 families, and adults and larvae seriously endanger peanuts, soybeans, corn, cotton and other crops. This time, the pest was intercepted in an inbound container from Taiwan. In order to prevent the introduction of the epidemic, quarantine personnel have carried out fumigation and pest control on the containers and loaded goods that found problems.

In recent years, with the rapid development of foreign economic relations and trade, the risk of importing goods carrying exotic pests has gradually increased. Taking kunshan port as an example, a total of 2438 kinds of pests have been intercepted this year, including 145 major quarantine pests. The Kunshan inspection and quarantine department said that it will continue to strengthen the inspection and quarantine work at the port to prevent the invasion of foreign harmful organisms.
