A few days ago, when the Jiangsu Zhangjiagang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau carried out inspection and quarantine on more than 50,000 tons of soybeans from Argentina, it found that there were a large number of adult insects on its surface (dead), so the samples were sent to the Plant Inspection Laboratory of the Jiangsu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau for further identification. After identification, the insect is a quarantine pest in China - white-edged elephant beetle, which is the first time that the insect has been intercepted on the shore of Zhangjia Port.
The genus Coleoptera is mainly distributed in South Africa, the United States and South America, endangering nearly 400 species of host plants in more than 40 families, and adults and larvae seriously harm peanuts, soybeans, corn, cotton and other crops.
At present, with the rapid development of Zhangjiagang's foreign economic trade, the risk of importing goods carrying foreign pests is also gradually increasing, and the inspection and quarantine department will continue to strengthen the inspection and quarantine work at the port to prevent the invasion of foreign harmful organisms and ensure the safety of the country.
