Victor Choi, who died at the age of 28, is today one of the most important rock musicians in the Russian-speaking world.
He was once a hero of the youth of the Soviet Union and a weapon for expressing the voice of protest, and his singing voice is still stirred in those exciting protests.
But in [midsummer], none of this matters. At that time, he was just a young man who had just begun to write songs, and met his admired musician predecessor and his wife, and the love and musical relationship between the three was the focus of the film.
Director Kirill says [Midsummer] isn't about politics, just as Victor Trinity has always stressed that his famous "Change" is not political.
But the background of the 80s of "sitting in danger and listening to rock and roll" is the atmosphere that young people in the movie cannot escape in the summer, which is depressed and restless.
In 1987, in the movie [Asa], Choi made a small cameo full of surprises at the end of the film. Dressed in a black jacket, he took his Kino band (also translated as a film band) and sang a song called "Change" as the end of the film.

Along with the shared popularity of the film and the new album, Choi's name spread across the country along with his "Change," triggering what was then called "Kinomania" (Kino mania, imitating the "Beatles mania" of the year).
Ten years ago, 15-year-old Choi was swept out of art school on the grounds that "rock and roll is harmful to normal learning." Since then, he has moved to the underground orchestra and began to try to write his own songs, and this year, he met Mike, who guided him in the movie.
It was 1981, and Mike Naumenko was already famous in the circle as the lead singer of the band Zoopark, and the show that began in the film was Mike's band.
Like a little fan, Choi ran to Mike: "I want you to hear my song". So, with the summer trip of a few people in the movie, he held the guitar, sat on the sand, and began to sing.
Choi is a Korean-born in Kazakhstan who moved to Leningrad with his parents at the age of 5. That year coincided with the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution in the Soviet Union.
This thin man with yellow skin and long hair, if he had been born in another era, may have lived a stable life as a carpenter.
But that was the '80s. The early 1980s were also one of the most conservative periods in the Soviet Union. The Soviet economy was entering a dead end, and it was not much better culturally.
Rock 'n' Roll was still an underground activity in the Soviet Union at the time, not receiving media exposure and without any official funding. Even in the very few places where public performances can be performed, such as the Leningrad Rock Club, there are many restrictions such as lyric review/censorship, personnel control, etc.
After meeting Mike, Choi began his career at the Leningrad Rock Club. Later, he sang "Why fight at all costs/ I don't want to put my boots on anyone's chest" and he sang "Change / We wait for change!" ”
His "Blood Type" and "Change", as well as his "rebellious" posture and momentum, swept the country in an instant and became the spiritual sustenance of all Soviet youth.
In the 1960s, the Beatles formed a "British invasion" force in the United States, and a far-reaching "Beatles mania" broke out throughout the European and American worlds.
At that time, the two camps of The East and the West were still in the Cold War confrontation, and the Soviet Union directly regarded rock and roll as a "dangerous weapon of American culture."
Before it was jazz, now it's rock 'n' roll. After the advent of rock and roll, Khrushchev said bluntly that "electric guitar is the enemy of the Soviet people" and rock music is "the music of apes".
However, this did not prevent the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and later the "Voice of Freedom" from reaching the ears of young Soviets, along with the "Voice of Freedom" such as Underground Velvet, Bowie, Sex/Pistols, etc.
Of course, it is necessary to use some underground channels. For example, records burned on X-rays, bone discs. Use an X-ray moment disc because it is convenient and easy to come by, mainly or cheap, but also really rough sound quality.
But underground, pirated discs that are secretly burned and disseminated on a small scale have obviously become a life-saving straw for music fans. It was under such harsh conditions that the young people of the Soviet Union began to form their own bands and play rock and roll.
Early Soviet bands, starting with cover songs of the Beatles and Rolling Stones, could not buy electric guitars, so they made their own; when they could not produce albums, they spread them on bone discs. Secretly performing on small stages and small venues often becomes a cat-and-mouse game with the police, suddenly interrupted and then run away.
On the other hand, an official voice called VIA (Vocal Instrument Assembly) was established to counter the influence of rock 'n' roll. A non-rock music similar to rock 'n' roll.
They control the performer's hairstyle, dress, guitar style, tuning tone, drum rhythm, and sing and dance on stage without anger.
So, by the 80s, Choi from the underground, with his Keno band, exclaimed "We're going to change!" "Rock 'n' roll that really changed the SOVIET Union appeared!
But in fact, even Choi himself and his rock 'n' roll may not be able to earn the title of sports leader. He simply sang about the rebellious consciousness of the country's young people in a relatively relaxed environment.
In [Midsummer], Choi and Mike often listen to a band called Underground Velvet, and if you ask if rock 'n' roll has really ever changed the world, it always reminds people of the "Velvet Revolution".
The sound of underground velvet was brought to the Czech Republic, which triggered the rise of the "second culture" represented by the plastic people in the universe and promoted the "velvet revolution" in the Czech Republic.
The later Czech president, recalling the first time he heard rock 'n' roll, said:
"There is a shocking, unsettling magic of this music, a sobering, sincere experience of life emanating from the depths of the heart that anyone can understand as long as the spirit is not completely numb. I suddenly realized that no matter how thick the language of these people is and how long their hair is, the truth is on their side."
When the mountain rain is coming, Cui's rock may not have directly changed the Soviet Union, but it also changed the young people of the Soviet Union in a certain sense.
Like the last performance of his life, more than 60,000 young people gathered at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium and sang in unison:
"My hands are clenched into fists, if there is gunpowder, give me fire"... "Our hearts are longing for change / Our eyes are searching for change"... "People who were once silent, no longer silent"...
Victor Choi is known as the "Cui Jian of the Soviet Union", and Gojo is too honored to be said by fans to be like Victor Tri! No wonder Renko was excited about Amway [Midsummer] and Choi himself.
Not only is it "Russian pop" in music, but there are actually many rebellious five people in Cui's music.
However, the "rebellion" of the Gojo people is obviously postmodern.
Just like they are still hanging Erlang dang on the show in slippers, and still sticking the three big characters of "not into the flow" on the drum in the show, Renke said it seems to be "very low", but "no problem"!
