The national numerical wind tunnel wind and thunder software won the national parallel application challenge championship

The National Parallel Application Challenge (PAC) is the largest parallel computing event in the country, positioned in China's Gordon Bell Award, facing the needs of the high-performance computing industry and application fields, aiming to promote technological innovation and application in the field of high-performance computing in China and promote the construction of professional talents.

Since July, the participating teams of The China Aerodynamic Research and Development Center have carefully prepared and passed the hurdles, stood out from more than 100 teams, and staged a peak duel with the Participating Teams of the National Marine Environment Forecasting Center, Sun Yat-sen University, university of science and technology of China, etc., and finally won the championship. Using the parallel solution function of E-level computing and multi-hardware platform adaptability designed by the national numerical wind tunnel wind mine software, the participating teams carried out a super-large-scale simulation of 1 million nuclear isomorphism and 300,000 nuclear isomorphic parallel for the 10.5 billion mesh of the large passenger aircraft, obtained high-fidelity results that are difficult to capture by conventional calculations, and maintained more than 66% parallel efficiency. This achievement is of great significance to improve the fidelity of numerical simulation of aircraft and accelerate the progress of industrial equipment research and development.

Efficient and highly scalable parallel computing is an important part of the construction of the National Numerical Wind Tunnel Project of China Aerodynamic Research and Development Center. Since 2019, the national numerical wind tunnel project has accelerated the construction of research, and has successively released grid generation software, flow field simulation software and open source platform for the whole country, and the software performance has basically reached and partially surpassed foreign commercial software, and has taken a solid step forward in building an independent CFD software system and achieving complete autonomy and controllability.

In addition, another team, the "DSMC Team", formed by the China Aerodynamic Research and Development Center, won the "third prize" of the challenge.
