The fifth experimental snapshot of Minecraft Java Edition 1.18, exp5, was released, and it's no surprise that this time the focus is still on fine-tuning the biomes and terrain.

1, the mountain: become higher and steeper! Some peaks sometimes have jagged bumps, with sharp undulations and steep peaks that look closer to the bedrock version of the mountain. The overall footprint of the mountain has become larger!
The highest point of the mountain is compressed to around Y=260 tiles as much as possible, which has exceeded the maximum height of the building in the minecraft version before 1.18. The reason for the 60-block space is to allow the player to build something on the top of the mountain, and by the way, to avoid the embarrassment of flattening the top of the mountain directly because of the height of the building.
2. Spawn: The update of the previous version of the snapshot was withdrawn, because after a lot of discussion and feedback from players in the community, Mojang temporarily changed back to the previous spawn setting, that is, the altitude of biogenesis and Minecraft is proportional, and as the height increases, the number of spawns will gradually decrease. That is to say, the lower the place, the more creatures there are, and the higher the higher, the fewer. This is not the final build setting at the moment and will theoretically be optimized.
3. Swamps: Swamp communities were moved inland to separate as much as possible from seawater. Because swamps pollute dirty seawater into the ocean, and the oak trees in swamp lakes take root deeper, swamp lakes now look more vibrant than ever. At least this is one of the communities with a large number of trees. Even a little curious, as future swamp updates will also add a new kind of tree.
4, the river: since the swamp chose to separate from the sea, in fact, into the embrace of the river, now the swamp will often become a part of the river, the future "Minecraft" river will be more perfect with the swamp fusion, while the depth of the river is more uniform, you can hardly see the obvious difference between the swamp and the river. Also fixed an issue where the river bank was too high for the player to be able to go ashore.
5, small lakes: the third kind of water - lakes, now this kind of lake will not appear in the tropical community, tropical community includes badlands, deserts, and savannah communities. It also lowers the probability of spawning small lakes in the various biomes of Minecraft as a whole.
6. Small mountain springs and waterfalls: what is a spring? It is based on water or lava blocks and generates in rocks or cliffs. In the 5th test snapshot of 1.18, springs will likely spawn on more blocks, such as snow, dirt, and springs flowing between mountains, and waterfalls that hang down in high mountains will become more common. Whether it's a waterfall or a small mountain spring, it will be spawned in conjunction with Minecraft's new mountain range.
7, mushroom island: although mushroom island is called "island", it actually looks more like a plain with mycelium, so this time the formation of mushroom island is adjusted to become more in line with the form of an "island".
8, other terrain fine-tuning: the evil land has become slightly smaller and lost; the entrance to the cave grass square has become stone, the small hillside appears more frequently, the broken terrain is replaced by a flat sand, the red sand and calcite will not be suspended, and so on.
Minecraft Next Update: Mojang seems to focus on monster spawning. For example, the monster will only spawn in complete darkness with a brightness of 0. This effectively avoids the problem of too many large cave monsters spawning, as the number of mobs spawned is the lower the altitude, the more monsters there are. So, will 1.18 completely change the logic of the previous monster generation?
