Appreciation of Qing Wu Xizai's seal carvings

Wu Xizai (1799-1870), formerly known as Tingyang, was a character Xizai, and later changed the character line to let it. A native of Yizheng, Jiangsu (present-day Yangzhou, Jiangsu). Seal engraver and calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty. Bao Shichen's disciple. Good at calligraphy and painting, especially fine seal carving. When he was young, he copied the Qin and Han seals, and then directly took the Fa Deng Shiru, obtained his essence, and synthesized his own knowledge, developed and improved the "Deng School" seal carving art, which has a pivotal position in the history of Ming and Qing school seal carving. Wu Changshuo commented: "Let Weng Pingsheng solidly obey the white, and yu Qin and Han seals to explore extremely deeply, so the sword method is round, there is no fiber Man qi, the weather is strong, and the quality is not lagging." Yu Yu Yuren: After learning bai, it is better to take the path of Rang Weng. Wu Rangzhi's seal is quite able to understand Deng Shiru's principle of "printing from the book", transporting the knife like a pen, turning quickly and roundly, being painful and happy, straightforward and dashing, round in the square, and strong and soft. Its body is strong, stretching and flowing, graceful and colorful, showing the euphemistic and smooth style of its own seal book, whether Zhu Wen Baiwen is skilled in kung fu, handy, and technically it has been like a Ding Ding to solve the cattle. Let Weng create something on the basis of inheriting Deng Guanbai, especially the relaxed and light charm, straight to the divine realm of the unity of books and seals.

Wu Rangzhi was born to rule the Seal of All Directions, and his reputation was outstanding, so that later he studied the "Deng Sect" of The Dorshe Deng Xiang Wu, in addition to Huang Shiling, Wu Rangzhi had a deep influence on the contemporaries Zhao Zhiqian and Xu Sangeng, modern Wu Changshuo, contemporary Han Tianheng and other famous book masters. Just as Xiling Ding supplemented by Zhao Zhiqian's pen meaning poetry praise day: "Yuanzhu entered the seal of the first Zhao Song, Huaining Buyi people teacher." A lamp does not extinguish the fire, relying on Yangzhou Wu Rangzhi.

Entering the white seal with the yuan Zhu wen seal method is a major feature of Wu Rangzhi's seal carving, all the way to the horizontal, wide, vertical and narrow, slightly rounded and penmanship of the flowing style, and his Zhu Wenyin harmonious unity. He is good at using the technique of shallow carving of the punching knife, the wrist is weak and the finger is real, the blade is cut, and his knife is like "the mind is too vain, if nothing happens". In theory, he respected the teacher, but in practice he deliberately distanced himself from the teacher's style. Huang Binhong, a master of modern calligraphy and painting, called Wu Rangzhi a "fickle", and after he mastered Deng, he also carried forward Deng Shiru's new realm of "printing from the book, and the book from printing in" with his own fickleness, and his late printing, calligraphy, layout, knife, and style method came out of the machine, with its plainness, elegance, and simplicity, forming its own unique printing style.
