The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe is Chevrolet's newest supercar. It has a powerful V8 engine, excellent handling, and a variety of driving modes and a comfortable interior.
Chevy's New Corvette is a K-stone for the growing Supercar.
For more than 65 years, chevrolet's everyone's dream car has had the beating V8 power in front of the driver, but that has all changed as the eighth generation has changed. Supercar Watch out!
Now, Vette's 6.2-liter V8 engine comes after the driver in a mid-engine fashion, which seems new and exciting, although supercar makers, plus Ford's Ford (GT), have been milking this layout for years.
Despite its novel and exciting appearance, the new Corvette is familiar. Standing ahead, you'll see similarities to the family, with pointed noses, long headlamps, and round front wheel cabins. There's even a tall, flat back shoulder that exudes a Corvette style.
However, there was an engine, underneath the glass rear window, and the Front Of Corvette confirmed that it was not Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren. The grumbling and rumbling of the V8 of the excellent metallic Sebring Orange test car has made even brainless people know that this is not an electric V6, like Ac Song's NSX, which is similar to Vette.
Sure, the roar of the Ferrari V8 or Lamborghini V12 will make them different, so why do they feel uncomfortable in the presence of this new Vette?
Think about it. It looked a lot like them (a neighbour asked if it was McLaren or Ferrari) and packed up nearly 500 horsepower, like it was ready to drive to the track,...... Wait a minute...... The starting price is only compared to the retail price of the supercar, which is only a down payment.
Quick comparison with heavyweights:
The British-based McLaren 570GT is a low-cost entry-level race car with its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine delivering 562 horsepower. Torque is 443 pound-feet
The Ferrari 488 GTB, with its 3.9-liter turbocharged V8, boasts 660 hp of horsepower.
Lamborghini's 6.5-liter V12 engine crushes all of its 740 hp and is equipped with AWD.
All of this has a 7-speed automatic transmission, while the Corvette has a new 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that shifts better than you or I've ever been. Plus, in Track mode, the snapping sound when downshifting is absolutely exhilarating.
The small non-turbo aluminum Chevrolet V8 with Z51 Performance kit found on the test vehicle delivers 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of power. Torque in an instant. There is no turbo delay here because there is no turbo. When you step on the throttle, the power is immediate. Just like the BMW M8 Competition convertible a week ago, the lightweight Vette (3,647 lbs vs. 4,251) exploded on the highway entrance ramp, reaching 100 mph. Please don't ask me how I know.
But to be honest, as I was fascinated by the original power, the operability and smoothness of the well-balanced Vette chassis impressed the most. I have a route in the countryside of southeast Wisconsin that tests the handling and quality of any car. This is the easiest sports car I've ever driven on this route, and probably wanted to buy, perhaps in addition to the more expensive M8.
The Stingray Coupe has three driving modes: Sport, Track and Tour.
In one breath I repeated the route three times, once in Tour, Sport and Track mode. As you'd like, the tracks are the most precise steering wheel, with the slightest twist of the wheel to cut into the intimidating S-curve. The wheels became unbelievable and tight. In Sport it's a slight wheel and shock tightening, while in Tour it's easy to maneuver but still easy to control. Tracking is more fun and excursions are more practical.
Driving along the "rustic" roads of the countryside, you'll expect The Tour to temper its naturally stiff sports car a little. Also note that the Vette's wheelbase is still relatively short, at 107.2 inches. The longer the wheelbase, the smoother the ride.
You're not buying a Vette or any supercar for a smooth boulevard cruise, though. However, this will not defeat you. Yes, we all know that the average age of Witt shoppers has increased. A friend happily told me that I was 65 years old and the ideal age for Corvette. Ha! Maybe! The new design is aimed at young driving enthusiasts. It will succeed.
Of course, the performance per dollar is there, and for those interested in such feats, this Vette goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds, while Chevrolet says it can be slightly better. Still, it's still a second faster than the old C7 Vette. Similarly, the Corvette has a top speed of 184 mph, while Chevy has a top speed of 194 mph. Either way, you'll need a speeding ticket!
For documentation, the test car's Z51 performance suite adds performance brakes, performance suspension, performance exhaust and rear axle ratios, as well as electronic limited slip differentials, rear spoilers, exhaust retention performance tires and heavy-duty cooling systems, improving performance.
The "Stingray Coupe" can reach speeds of 0 to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds, almost a second faster than the latest model released by Chevrolet.
A crowd of onlookers at Hartford City Airport praised the new Vette's exterior, but were particularly curious about its movable roof panels and sleek new interior. Several owned Bys.
First of all, the top plate is easy to remove. As with most convertible roofs, flip the two levers over to the windshield and then release the levers backwards to lift the roof with ease. It's best to be with two people unless the single person's upper body is high and strong. You don't want the fiberglass top to slide and ruin the paint job of the car.
In any case, in the case of two people lifting the suitcase and loosening the rear hatch cover, which covers the engine and rear trunk space, you can slide the top into the trunk while driving for storage. It only works in one way.
Inside, the orange test car is all black leather with gray stitching, and there are many satin or brushed chrome trims on the doors, door armrests and steering wheel spokes, as well as under the information screen. It looks good, and the ridge that separates the driver from the passenger is also good. There you can find climate and seat heating/cooling controls on both sides. Drivers are easy to use, while passengers are less easy to use. The cordless phone charger is also awkward, and it sits in small pockets between the seats and behind. This is standard for the 2LT trim Vette.
I liked the seats for all the passengers. These are GT2 power seats, heating and cooling devices, and multi-position adjustable seats including side pillows. But I slipped in and immediately felt relaxed. The electric tilt/telescope square (similar to a racing driver) steering wheel also helps. This roller gives you more legroom, making it easier for you to view the 12-inch dashboard.
The interior of stingray Coupe is made of all-black leather with grey stitching and has many satin or brushed chrome trims on the doors.
The 8-inch screen is also easy to read and easy to use. The two "Favorites" buttons under the steering wheel also help the driver quickly find the tone. Bose's high-performance stereo system with 14 speakers also helps. This is part of the 2LT suite, which includes many additional features such as an adjustable head-up display, navigation system, front-view camera, anti-theft system, rear intersection and blind spot alerts.
If you park your car on the side of the road or near the parking lot, the front camera will help because the Veette has a lower nose. But don't worry, there's a button here to lift the car's nose an inch or so to avoid scratches. That's an extra $1,495.
I also found my feet a little tight because I was short and the seat was very front. The view from the rear is also not great, but you want to have that feeling in a mid-engine car. Rearview cameras and mirrors/cameras help in this regard. I only use them when I support them.
On the rather impressive side are excellent brakes, 13.6 inches at the front wheels and 13.8 inches at the rear wheels. The caliper was the black Corvette brand, and the baby was in a hurry.
With meals taking precedence over driving, two suitcases (one front and one rear) also provide you with proper storage space for some suitcases or grocery bags. And I know it's a small thing, but I liked the orange seat belt on the test car for an extra $395.
The gas mileage is also good and there is no gas consumption tax here. The EPA places Vette on the 15 mpg city and highway 27. I got 19.3 mpg of fuel on the road at a mixed 60/40 ratio. One Witter owner told me he sometimes drives nearly 40 miles/gallon on the highway. Also know that V8 requires 91 octane fuel. But this is to be expected.
Overall, it's not exactly a poor supercar, but it's more accessible than those marked with nameplates. The new Vette is the winner!
