On May 12, 2008, when a huge earthquake occurred in Wenchuan, Sichuan, Liu Yan took the initiative to participate in the medical treatment of the earthquake relief in Sichuan Dougu Town, and was the first batch of medical personnel to arrive in the disaster area. She took the initiative to ask for help and set off overnight with the comrades of the medical team. After more than 50 hours of hard work, 496 migrant workers were safely delivered to Jinan. At 3:00 a.m. on October 13, 2020, Liu Yan, as the leader of the nucleic acid sampling team, led 9 comrades to quickly go out to support Qingdao Jimo to carry out nucleic acid collection. Every day, everyone came out early and returned late, went deep into the major factory communities and construction sites, collected nucleic acids for more than 2,600 people, and successfully completed the task, and the local government sent thank-you letters and pennants to the hospital.
Liu Yan has been engaged in nursing work in various departments such as emergency department, internal medicine department and cataract department. As the head nurse, she took the lead in setting an example, from making beds in morning nursing to buying food and clothes for patients in need out of her own pocket, from carrying out health education to optimizing work processes, every job and every link, she meticulously completed. In order to relieve the tension before surgery in young children, she and her colleagues bought children's toys to give to the children in the ward. As the epidemic prevention and control work has entered the norm, the hospital has more stringent management standards for inpatients and accompanying people, and "you cannot leave the ward unless you need to leave the ward during hospitalization".
