Liu Shiming (1938--), originally from Shandong, was born in Beijing. Famous tenor singer, national first-class actor, recipient of special allowance of the State Council, famous actor of China Opera and Dance Theatre.

As a teenager, Liu Shiming not only has excellent grades but also loves performing arts. In 1958, Liu Shiming was admitted to both the Foreign Language Academy and the Central Academy of Drama, and has since embarked on the road of literature and art. He graduated from the Acting Department of the Central Academy of Drama in 1962 and was assigned to the Central Experimental Opera House as an opera singer and soloist in the same year. Later, he studied under Professor Jiang Jiaxiang of the Central Conservatory of Music. His musical career began in 1962. The famous opera artist Guo Lanying starred in "The White-Haired Girl", because the original partner was old, wanted to choose a new opera partner and transferred him to the China Opera and Dance Theater. He was only 23 years old. Since then, he and Guo Lanying have performed on the same stage for more than 20 years. The four opera fragments performed by Guo Lanying when he bid farewell to the stage: "Little Erhei Married", "Liu Hulan", "White-Haired Girl" and "Dou E'er Wrong" were all performed by Liu Shiming. Most people know him more or less because he sang Lü Yuan's "There is a Beautiful Legend" in the 1980s.

Liu Shiming's singing voice is bright, the line cavity is sweet, the words are clear, and the charm is mellow. Especially the folk songs of northern Shaanxi, the handling is seamless, making it difficult for others to reach. For example, "There is food and clothing", "The guerrillas came down on the mountain". It is said that Liu Shi divorced in 1970 and lived alone, and he is still full of voice when he is over seventy years old. He played Dou Tianzhang in the opera "Dou E'e Grievance" and won two major awards from the Ministry of Culture: the Performance Award and the Excellence Award. He won the first prize for performance awarded by the Ministry of Culture in the evening party of "Guo Lanying Opera Fragments". In 1991, he received a special award from the Ministry of Culture at the evening of "Opera Fragments". The theme song of the TV series "The Legend of Muyushi", which he sang and recorded: "A Beautiful Legend", won the gold medal of the New Era Film and Television Outstanding Song Grand Prix awarded by the Film and Television Association and the first prize of the Youth's Favorite Song selected by the National Youth Federation.
