Liu Kui has loved art since childhood. In 1975, just after turning 16 years old, he was admitted to the then Jelim League Song and Dance Troupe from the Bayin Tara High School in Inner Mongolia's Kezuo Zhongqi, and quickly grew into an excellent professional dancer, becoming a pillar of the troupe, which attracted much attention. Recalling the process of filming, he was deeply touched: "There was a scene where the filming of the brothers set up a banquet to welcome the four brothers, the script was originally set up to be ten brothers toasting to the four brothers, and the four brothers ignored it, and the ten brothers directly threw the wine glass in anger. But I always felt a little 'hot', and after careful consideration and practice, I re-set the way of acting, and the director agreed with my idea.
