A few days ago, Ambassador Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, gave an exclusive exclusive interview to the Central Radio and Television Corporation on the 50th anniversary of the People's Republic of China's restoration of its legitimate seat in the United Nations.
Over the past 50 years, China has been shouldering its responsibilities for world peace
As a permanent member of the Security Council, what role has China played in maintaining international peace and security over the past 50 years?
Ambassador Zhang Jun: As a permanent member of the Security Council, China has actively played the unique role of a major country and has been shouldering its responsibilities for world peace for 50 years.
In order to maintain peace, we always stand on the side of international justice and justice. In international affairs, we uphold objectivity and fairness, firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, speak out for the developing countries, oppose hegemonic powers, and oppose unilateral sanctions.
In order to maintain peace, we have always been committed to the political settlement of hotspot issues. We insist on bridging differences through dialogue and resolving disputes through consultation. During China's presidency of the Security Council in May this year, the situation between Palestine and Israel suddenly heated up, and we promoted the Security Council's consideration of the Palestinian-Israeli issue four times in 10 days. At the most intense critical moment of the conflict, State Councilor Wang Yi presided over an emergency open meeting of the Security Council, which played an important role in promoting the relaxation of the situation.
In order to maintain peace, we actively participate in United Nations peacekeeping operations. In the past 50 years, China has participated in 29 peacekeeping operations and dispatched more than 50,000 people, making it the country with the largest number of troops among the permanent members of the Security Council. Last year, we pushed the Council to adopt the first resolution 2518 on the safety of peacekeepers in history. This year, we promoted the Security Council to issue a presidential statement drafted by China on the security of peacekeepers, and initiated the establishment and chairmanship of the Group of Friends of the Security of United Nations Peacekeepers. These initiatives have promoted the United Nations from scratch, established a basic structure for maintaining the safety of peacekeepers and made a new contribution to supporting United Nations peacekeeping operations.

● China promotes world development
There are ideas, there are plans, there are actions and effects
As the world's second largest economy and the largest developing country, what contributions has China made to promoting world development?
Ambassador Zhang Jun: To sum up, China can be said to have a concept, a plan, an action and an effect in promoting world development. Having a philosophy means that we always adhere to the right direction. Internationally, based on China's development experience and the urgent needs of developing countries, we advocate the construction of an open world economy, advocate a more open, inclusive, inclusive, balanced and win-win economic globalization, and take a clear stand against unilateralism and trade protectionism. It has pointed out the direction for global development.
There are schemes that mean that we attach importance to the provision of public goods. China's Belt and Road Initiative has received positive responses from 140 countries and 32 international organizations. We have established the China-United Nations Peace and Development Fund, which has supported more than 110 projects, benefiting more than 100 countries and regions.
There is action, which means that we can come up with real measures. We are actively engaged in "South-South cooperation", providing development assistance to 166 countries and international organizations, and supporting more than 120 developing countries in implementing the Millennium Development Goals and the 2030 Sustainable Agenda. Since the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, we have provided anti-epidemic material assistance to more than 150 countries and vaccines to more than 100 countries and international organizations, becoming the mainstay of international anti-epidemic cooperation. We have announced carbon peaks, carbon neutrality targets and a series of independent contribution initiatives to make a significant contribution to global cooperation on climate change.
Effective means that we have made an important contribution to the development of the world through our own efforts. China took the lead in achieving the Millennium Development Goals and achieved the poverty reduction target set by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule, with the poverty reduction population accounting for more than 70% of the global poverty reduction population in the same period, significantly reducing the territory of the world's poor population. China's contribution to global economic growth has ranked first in the world for 15 consecutive years, especially in recent years, China has absorbed 25% of the exports of the least developed countries, making a real contribution to narrowing the gap between the North and the South. Most importantly, through its own development practices, China has expanded the path of developing countries to modernization, providing new options for those countries in the world that want to accelerate development and maintain their independence.
