On September 26, 2021, at the theme forum of "Chain Repair and Transformation and Upgrading" at the 2021 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference, Yang Ye, co-founder and senior vice president of Aodong New Energy Automobile Technology Co., Ltd., made a speech on the application and advantages of the power exchange model.

Yang Ye believes that the demands of electric vehicle users include four aspects: network convenience, efficient energy replenishment, safety and reliability, and economic affordability, and the power exchange mode can be well compatible with these four aspects to provide users with convenient charging services.

At the same time, as a service model, power exchange is one of the industrial carriers of the strong chain of the supplementary chain, and will move from 2B to 2C in the future, directly facing users, and will be promoted in a large area of commercial vehicles.

As early as in 2012, the State Council issued the "Energy Saving and New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2012-2020)" has been mentioned that it is necessary to explore business models such as battery leasing, charging and replacing services, and encourage the establishment of independently operated charging and replacing enterprises.

The 2021 government work report also mentioned the need to "increase charging piles and change power station facilities".

Yang Ye said that in 2020, Vice Minister Xin Guobin personally described the seven advantages of the power exchange model in public. He said that it is necessary to support the innovative development of new technologies, new formats and new models, encourage enterprises to develop new charging and power exchange technologies, and explore the application of vehicle-electricity separation models to meet the needs of different markets.

These seven advantages are: separation of vehicle and electricity, reducing the cost of car purchase; increasing the convenience of consumer travel; extending the life of power batteries and improving safety; using the peak-valley electricity price difference to reduce charging costs; reducing vehicle weight and reducing power consumption; solving the problem of charging difficulties in old residential areas; and spawning new service industries.

Yang Ye put forward his own views and interpretations on these advantages:

First of all, the battery swap allows the battery to share the maximum value, and the battery is safer and healthier in the power swap mode. Through the constant temperature and humidity unified rate of warehouse charging, real-time safety monitoring system, the battery has been health management of the whole life cycle, life is extended, vehicle safety is guaranteed.

Secondly, the separation of vehicle electricity makes the battery value higher. At each stage of the battery safety life cycle, its value can be released, a battery can not only serve private cars, but also derivative to operating cars, and then can be used in cascade to two-wheeled vehicles, tricycles, and even energy storage interchange, residual value recovery.

At the same time, the separation of vehicle and electricity is conducive to reducing the user's car purchase cost. Users only need to buy a car to rent a battery, how long to rent the car, the physical battery separation realizes the transformation of property rights transactions to use rights transactions, so that battery resources from personal assets to public resources, so that the use of the calendar cycle of batteries is more reasonable. For asset users, the flowing battery assets can be financialized, and the unit cycle of the battery can be improved. With the advancement of technology, the battery must be standardized, shared, low-cost, and socialized in the direction of development.

Finally, power exchange is a service model, but also an energy carrier. The power exchange network is a distributed energy storage system and an important part of the new smart grid. The Aodong substation makes the battery a flowing block of energy, allowing the substation to communicate energy with the vehicle. Each vehicle is an energy carrier that can interact bidirectionally with the substation. Vehicles can come to the power station to change power, or they can transmit electricity to the replacement power station.

At the same time, the substation can also interact with the grid energy. Each substation is a distributed energy storage system, which can support the grid throughout the network, trough charging, peak discharge, adjust the power balance, and reduce the pressure on the grid.

Yang Ye believes that the national policy and the support of Vice Minister Xin Guobin reflect the strategic direction of the national level for energy transformation and service system reform.

The reason why Yang Ye put forward this view is mainly for the following reasons:

First, because private cars are basically equipped with parking spaces, but private charging piles cannot be "one by one" at present. The private pile condition population is the mainstream population of the city, and solving the public energy supply needs of the mainstream population will solve the problem of the large-scale popularization of electric vehicles, and this main contradiction must be solved.

Second, the penetration rate of electric vehicles in China is now only about 5%, and with the comprehensive development of electric vehicles, the establishment of energy supply networks brings great challenges to land and electricity. The power exchange mode has unique advantages in both land efficiency evaluation and power utilization. Under the same service capability, the land utilization rate of power exchange is ten to fifteen times that of fast charging, and the effective utilization rate of electricity is as high as 85%, which is 6-8 times that of charging mode. It can be seen that efficient public services can really capture users.

Third, the power exchange mode realizes rechargeable, replaceable, and upgradeable, effectively solving the needs of C-end energy replenishment, and meeting the beautiful experience of users who want to charge, change if they want, and upgrade if they want to upgrade.

Yang Ye believes that through years of practice, it has been found that it is imperative for commercial vehicles to change electricity. Aodong also started from the research on the replacement of commercial vehicles, and the Beijing Olympic Games, the Shanghai World Expo, the Guangzhou Asian Games, etc. all adopted Aodong's chassis power exchange technology.

At present, Aodong products have been expanded to tractors, dump trucks, light truck logistics vehicles, buses, heavy trucks and other commercial models of power exchange technology.

The reason why we are optimistic about the development of commercial vehicle replacement technology is because compared with passenger cars, the operating section of commercial vehicles is relatively fixed, and far from the bustling road section with higher rents, the construction cost of the substation is lower and the utilization rate is higher; the operational efficiency of commercial vehicles is an important indicator affecting its economic returns, and the power exchange mode can improve the operational efficiency very well; the commercial vehicle replacement mode will promote the development of the recycling market after the battery is decommissioned, which is conducive to giving full play to the asset value of the battery.

Yang Ye said that at the moment of intelligent development, it is necessary to realize the digital and intelligent means of charging and replacing to accelerate the innovation of power exchange. At the same time, the electrification of commercial vehicles is particularly critical to the goal of carbon neutrality and carbon peaking, and the replacement type electric truck, as one of the three major paths for the electrification of commercial vehicles, deserves the attention of the industry.
