On November 8, the elderly Li Lianxiao, who lives in Jingui Village, Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, and the Qiang people in the county ushered in the Qiang New Year, which is the first New Year after Beichuan took off the "poverty hat".

The reporter came to Jingui Village to see that unlike the festive atmosphere in the county town, here is another fiery scene, 72-year-old Li Lianxiaozheng and more than 30 villagers, in the orchard to weed and fertilize kiwi trees.

"My daughter said to take me to the city for the festival and watch the show, but I still want to plant kiwifruit here first." Li Lianxiao said while patting the dirt on his hand that this was the first Qiang year that Beichuan had ushered in after he got rid of poverty, and he wanted to live more meaningfully.

Last winter, Li Lianxiao and his wife joined the Beichuan Golden Turtle Hui Farming And Breeding Cooperative and began to grow kiwifruit. Under the organization of cooperatives, men involved in farming are paid 80 yuan per day and women 60 yuan. According to the villagers, they work here for 8 hours a day, and they can arrange which day to participate in the labor, and the salary is calculated according to the number of working days.

Li Lianxiao's son's family was once one of the poor families in the village, and now, Old Li's son and daughter-in-law work in the city, and their daughter is in college, and planting kiwifruit has become the work of Li Lianxiao and his wife. With the efforts of the whole family, Li Lianxiao's family and 73 other villagers in Jingui Village successfully escaped poverty. Talking about today's life, Old Li showed a smile on his face: "Now life is much better than before, the income is more, the family house has been renovated, and life is getting better and better!" ”

Li Lianxiao said that the biggest wish of the New Year is that the kiwifruit he participated in planting can grow well and sell for a good price in the future.

Liu Gang, secretary of the party branch of Jingui Village, told reporters that experts from the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences once went to the village in 2016 to test the soil and thought it was suitable for planting red heart kiwifruit, so the village decided to plant kiwifruit to drive poverty alleviation. Kiwi fruit has three years to bear fruit, and after the future gains, the farmers who have invested in the shares will receive dividends. He said: "According to the current market situation, each household dividend can reach more than 100,000 yuan. ”

Villager Zhang Tianchen, who also grows kiwifruit in the village, received an interest-free loan of 50,000 yuan from the government in February and invested it in a stake in kiwifruit cultivation. "Looking at the kiwi fruit you planted, you are happier than the New Year!" Like Li Lianxiao, Zhang Tianchen also stuck to his labor post on New Year's Day.

In addition to kiwifruit, Golden Turtle Village also grows fruits such as phoenix plum, ugly mandarin, and grapefruit, with a total area of about 2,200 mu. In the next step, Jingui Village will take advantage of its location near Beichuan County to build homestays, picking gardens, and carry out projects such as farmhouses to further increase farmers' income.

It is understood that by the end of 2017, Beichuan County had reduced poverty by 19,135 people, and the incidence of poverty had dropped from 14.08% to 0.93%. On August 2 this year, Beichuan officially withdrew from the list of national poverty-stricken counties. (End)
