KDD China Frontier Conference Ended, Zheng Yu: Smart city operating system is one of the core contents of new infrastructure

On July 17-18, the KDD Pre-Conference opened in Chengdu. Dr. Zheng Yu, Vice President of JD Group and IEEE Fellow, was elected as the new chairman of KDD China in this organizational change, and his paper "Driving with Knowledge from the Physical World" that he co-authored ten years ago won the Test of Time Award at the KDD China 5th Anniversary Award Ceremony.

According to the KDD China Constitution, through the nomination and election process, and the KDD China Steering Committee finally determined that Zheng Yu (currently the Secretary General of KDD China) was elected as the new KDD China Chairman for a three-year term, starting from January 1, 2022.

As the new chairman of KDD China, Zheng Yu also announced the new KDD China Executive Committee members, who will be responsible for the management and decision-making of KDD China's daily affairs in the future. They are:

Vice Chairman: Dr. Shen Ji, Executive Vice President of Baidu, and Professor Tang Jie, Deputy Director of the Department of Computer Science of Tsinghua University

Treasurer: Professor Chen Enhong, Executive Dean of the School of Big Data, University of Science and Technology of China

Dr. Zheng Yu's paper", "Driving with Knowledge from the Physical World", published in KDD 2011, was twice reported by MIT Technology Review, and the paper was cited fourth in the world among all KDD 2011 papers and first in papers from the China region. Professor Chengqi Zhang, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Technology Sydney, presented the KDD China Test of Time Award to the winner Zheng Yu at the meeting. The work of papers evaluated by the award has been validated over a decade, received widespread attention and high recognition, and has had a profound and positive impact on the KDD field.

At the meeting, Zheng Yu made an award-winning report with the theme of "Smart City Operating System", and explained in detail the five characteristics of smart city operating system.

The smart city operating system is one of the core contents of the new infrastructure, and is the base and digital cornerstone of smart city construction. It is a collection, storage, management, analysis, visualization in one, specially oriented to the city of big data and AI platform, can be through the aggregation of urban global data, to achieve data security through, and for the construction of smart cities to provide professional, standardized, intelligent, platform-based AI component services, so that many enterprises can develop their own applications on the city operating system, to build a smart city.

The five characteristics of the smart city operating system are that the data through train solves the problem of urban data aggregation; the spatio-temporal data engine solves the problem of massive data management; the spatio-temporal intelligent engine solves the problem of weak data support and empowerment; the federal digital gateway solves the problem of insufficient data interoperability; and the Monet Window solves the urban digital twin.
