Cameron Anthony surpassed Moses Malone to finish ninth on the NBA's all-time scoring list with 27,409 points in the NBA

Cameron Anthony is now the ninth leading scorer in NBA history. The Los Angeles Lakers forward trailed Moses Malone's career total of 27,409 points and 14 points in Sunday night's game against the Memphis Grizzlies, but he had a brilliant shooting night to close the gap. With a three-pointer from the flank of the third quarter, Anthony officially scored his 16th point of the night with just nine shots on goal. That put him on 27,411 points in his NBA career.

Anthony scored 28 points in Sunday's game, bringing his career total to 27,423

That may not happen this season, but Anthony is very close to eighth place and is currently held by another Lakers. Shaquille O'Neal scored 28,596 points in his NBA career, leaving Anthony about 1,200 points behind him. Even if Anthony plays every game for the rest of the season, he still needs to average around 15 points per game to overtake O'Neal. Considering his role as a substitute, that's unlikely, so if Carmelo does make it into the top eight, it could come next season or later.

That could be as high as Anthony, now 37, can climb. Wilt Chamberlain is seventh with 31,419 points. With so many years and minutes left in his career, Anthony will almost certainly not get enough points to catch up with him. Still, Anthony has been away for more than a year after being replaced by the Houston Rockets. He almost retired on this list, well below his final ranking.

But signing with the Portland Trail Blazers reinvigorated Anthony's career, and now, he's trying to win his first NBA championship as a Lakers member. If he has more games like tonight, he will have a good chance of doing so. Even if he didn't, he would always be remembered as one of the greatest scorers in NBA history.
