The EU National Social Thematic Summit, held in Porto, Portugal, from 7 to 8 May, aims to push for better social protection mechanisms in Europe after the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview with the media after the meeting, Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis called on EU countries not to impose quarantine measures on tourists returning from Greece.

He said everyone wants summer tourism to go as smoothly as possible, and for the Greek government, that means not putting too many restrictions on tourists returning from a Greek vacation. Mitsotakis also reiterated the Greek government's hope to quickly enable "digital green certificates" so that EU citizens can travel to other countries immediately.

It is reported that the United Kingdom announced a list of 12 safe travel destinations on May 7, including Portugal, Gibraltar and Israel, while France, Spain and Greece, which are most popular with tourists, are not on the "green list". This means that UK travellers are required to undergo mandatory quarantine for a period of 10 days upon returning to the UK from Greece.

According to reports, the list will be reviewed every three weeks. Earlier, the London Evening News pointed out that sometime this summer, Spain and Greece could be included in the UK's travel green list. (Reporter Wang Yuguo)
