National Bureau of Statistics: The national urban population 901991162, accounting for 63.89%

According to the official website of the National Bureau of Statistics, according to the results of the seventh national census, the urban and rural distribution and flow of the population of 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and active military personnel in mainland China are hereby announced as follows:

1. Urban and rural population

Among the national population[3], the population living in cities and towns is 901991162, accounting for 63.89% (the urbanization rate of China's household registration population in 2020 is 45.4%[4]); the population living in rural areas is 509787562 people, accounting for 36.11%. Compared with the sixth national census in 2010, the urban population increased by 236415856 persons, the rural population decreased by 164361984 people, and the proportion of urban population increased by 14.21 percentage points.

2. Floating population

Among the national population, the population of separated households[6] is 492762506, of which the population of separated households [7] in the municipal area is 116945747, and the floating population is 375816759. Among the floating population, the inter-provincial floating population is 124837153, and the floating population in the province is 250979606.

Compared with the sixth national census in 2010, the number of separated households increased by 231376431, an increase of 88.52%; the population of separated households in the municipal area increased by 76986324 people, an increase of 192.66%; and the floating population increased by 154390107 people, an increase of 69.73%.

[7] The population within the municipal jurisdiction of the municipality refers to the population in the district under the jurisdiction of a municipality directly under the central government or prefecture-level city and between districts and districts, and the place of residence and the place of household registration are not in the same township street.
