The Polish female director once said of Juliet Binoche: "She is like a 'film animal' – the camera loves her, and she loves the camera. Juliet Binoche, known as the rose of "France", does not stop at the screen and the camera, she has been constantly challenging herself in the wider art world, opening up her potential, and allowing the audience to see a richer and more multifaceted Juliet Binoche.

We always limit our energy. I was caught in a dilemma when I was 14. I love painting and I love drama. I thought I had to choose. I told my mother about my plight to one of my mother's painter friends. She signed me a poster that said: 'Juliet: Choose to do anything!' That always stays in my head. Life should develop, change, be open to change, accept new things, and learn to love in life.

—Juliet Binoche

In 1994, she held her own solo exhibition, designed and painted posters for several films in which she starred, and published the poetry collection Portrait In-Eyes. In 2008 she embarked on a world tour of the modern dance work In-i with Aku Ham.

Born into an artistic family, Juliet Binoche has been performing theatre since she was a teenager, and it can be said that the stage is the place where she first realized her artistic ideals. During her years in the film industry, Binoche also interrupted her stage performances, including Pirandello's "Nudity" in London in 1998 and Harold Pinter's "Betrayal" on Broadway in 2000, the latter of which was nominated for a Tony Award.

On September 9, Juliet Binoche will debut the 2018 National Centre for the Performing Arts International Drama Season with her stage work musical "Born like a Summer Flower". She will work with French pianist Vincent Durham to show the legendary life of Barbara, the "Queen of Chansons" of France, in a variety of forms of expression such as singing and performing, so that Barbara's beautiful songwriting and singing will return to the stage, and the romantic French style will also add a charming color to the 2018 National Centre for the Performing Arts International Drama Season.

Legendary "Chanson Queen" Barbara

In the eyes of Juliet Binoche, Barbara was the music master who accompanied her throughout her life, and she is still a "goddess" who still respects her today. Born in wartime Paris, Barbara's artistic career was bumpy and legendary, with a homeless childhood, a resident singer in a restaurant club, Barbara's thin figure and the sadness in her song, which finally gave her an irreplaceable position in the French music scene. In 1965, her album Barbara Sings Barbara was a great success and won the Charles College Record Award. At the awards ceremony, Barbara tore the award certificate into pieces and gave it to her staff one by one to show her gratitude. Barbara has also ventured into the film industry and the stage, looking for her own artistic light outside of music. 2017 marks the 20th anniversary of Barbara's death, and many artists have commemorated and honored the Queen of Chanson in different art forms, including the musical play "Born Like a Summer Flower", which was selected for the IN section of the Avignon Theatre Festival 2017.

French pianist Vincent Durham will bring a wonderful performance that goes beyond piano performance

Based on Barbara's autobiography Once Had a Black Piano and her songs, the musical drama "Born as a Summer Flower" will recreate On stage Barbara and her works' celebrations of life, love, and the pain and hope under the weight of her life when she was dark and dark. Barbara's autobiography and the performer's memories of her will be intertwined on stage, touching the hearts of every audience member, as Juliet Binoche put it, "the shadows in the light are as moving as the black velvet under the sun".
