Akira Kurosawa was born into a samurai family. When my father was very young, his hair was tied into a samurai bun, and when he became an adult, he often sat with his back to the niche, raising his sword in his left hand and gently rubbing talc powder on the body of the knife with his right hand. My father was very fond of calligraphy, and there were always calligraphy works hanging in the niches, one of which was a rubbing of the ancient Hanshan Temple inscription. Perhaps it is influenced by the style of the samurai family that Kurosawa Akira created many works with samurai themes, such as "Zi Sanshiro" and "Seven Samurai".
His father was strict with Akira Kurosawa, and he received a Spartan education from an early age. His father took him to the Ochiai Dojo to learn martial arts, and every morning, he wore clogs and walked on the avenue with the street lights still lit. The morning lessons at the dojo begin with a meditation, where you take off your clothes and change into a thin kendo suit. Even in winter, his father did not allow him to wear socks, his hands and feet were so cold that his hands and feet were sore, and his mother was so distressed that she let him soak his feet in hot water every day.
As time passed, his kendo also improved greatly, and he was promoted to vice general in the fifth grade.

He wanted to escape, but Bamboo Knife would not agree. He took down the bamboo knife and pulled away, and the little leper saw the noisy waving of his hand and the guys flocked up.

He crossed a narrow alley, and jumped left and right to avoid the stinking gutters and decaying gutters in the hutongs. It wasn't until he ran out of the alley that he put the clogs on.
It is said that Akira Kurosawa's debut novel "Zi Sanshiro" was inspired by the handling of the thick-toothed clogs bridge section.
Clogs experienced ups and downs, and simply and clearly explained the time span of Zi Sanshiro's learning martial arts.
When he was in the third grade of Kurosawa Akira Junior High School, his father fostered him in to toyokawa Village, Akita Prefecture, in order to give him more experience. He spent his entire summer vacation in that deserted mountain village, living a life of "reading in the rain and in the sun".
Akira Kurosawa lived in his uncle's house, his uncle had died, and his uncle's eldest son, his cousin, became the head of the family. According to his father's letter, every sunny morning, his cousin asked him to bring enough rice and sauce and pickles for two people to eat twice, all of which were packed into a large food box, and an iron pot, and the duck seemed to have to drive Kurosawa out of the door, and there was already a sixth-grade elementary school student waiting outside the gate. When Kurosawa reached the age of 82, he was able to insist on filming "Sunset Love", which undoubtedly laid a solid physical foundation in his youth.
In addition, in an era when it was widely believed that movies would have a negative impact on their children, strictly so, the father took the initiative to take the whole family to the movies (then called "activity photography"), and insisted that movies were beneficial to their children's education. Akira Kurosawa's mother had incredible resilience.
Once the oil pot was on fire, and the mother held the oil pot that started the fire in both hands, and her hands burned, and her eyebrows and hair burned loudly, but she calmly carried the oil pot through the living room, put on the clogs, and took the oil pot to the center of the yard. One summer, the brothers learned to swim. One day, his brother came to him with a small boat and beckoned him to board. "Shadow Samurai" directed by Akira Kurosawa is more or less a tribute to the late brother, mixed with the complex emotions of being his brother's shadow.

Keinosuke Uekusa and Akira Kurosawa, who had deep roots from adolescence to their youth, grew up like two twisted vines.

Like all children who love to play with their families, he and Uekusa Zibi Kiyoshi Nayan (by "Pillow Grass") and "Purple Style" (by "The Tale of Genji"). A few years later, he saw Uekusa's name in an advertisement for Japanese Cinema, and the magazine published Uekusa's script "Mother's Map." Curiously, when he bought the magazine from the bookstore on Ginza Street, he had just left the store and unexpectedly encountered Uekusa, whose pocket contained Akira Kurosawa's script.
The friendship they cultivated as teenagers continued from this day.

Not unprovoked confidence

At that time, the art class was dogmatic, only requiring students to copy the physical object according to common sense, the more like it was drawn, the higher the score, and the students generally drew according to the requirements.
However, Akira Kurosawa is not an ordinary person, and he will not go the usual path.
I don't remember what I drew anymore, but I remember very seriously, drawing hard, even if I broke the pencil. After applying the color, it is also wet with saliva and applied well, resulting in various colors on the hands.
Fortunately, he met Tachikawa-sensei, who not only did not criticize Kurosawa's freedom-advocating style. The mere fact that his fingers were dipped in saliva to color him was greatly appreciated, and he was praised for drawing large three-tiered circles for his paintings.
With this inspiration, Akira Kurosawa fell in love with painting. Later, he became obsessed with Van Gogh, Cézanne, and Utrilo, laying the foundation for painting. When "Shadow Samurai" could not start filming due to lack of funds, hundreds of hand-drawn sub-shot pictures were drawn, detailed to the demeanor of the characters, which not only recorded the inspiration in time, but also provided a reference for the actors' performances when filming began later.
