In 1947, the Kuomintang attacked Yan'an. Dozens of children at the Yan'an Nursery left their biological parents and were led by nursery staff. The indiscriminate bombardment of enemy planes frightened the children of the nursery.
Xiao Hanping, brigade commander of our army, received orders from his superiors to quickly find the three detachments of the 61st Brigade of the Cpc Central Committee (that is, the units belonging to the nursery) that had lost contact with the headquarters, and postponed the withdrawal of the blocking position.
Xiao Hanping transferred Li Nan, the instructor of the third battalion, from the front line, and sent her to find and escort the children to the Yellow River crossing, and then returned to the troops.
