On the morning of May 22, the main arch of the Xiangxi Yangtze River Bridge in Zigui County was successfully closed, which marked the basic completion of the difficult construction tasks of the entire bridge project, and the millennium dream of changing the path of the Gorge River Graben was about to be realized.

The Xiangxi Yangtze River Bridge is one of the major projects in the follow-up work of the Three Gorges migrants, and it is also the world's largest steel box truss thrust arch bridge cast by the builders of the China Railway Bridge Bureau into the Three Gorges. The total length of the bridge is 883.2 meters, the main span is 531.2 meters, and the width of the bridge deck is 32.3 meters. The main arch of the bridge is composed of 23 curved steel components in the air, and the whole bridge has no piers, flying across the mouth of the Bingshu Baojian Gorge, overlooking the east stream of the wall.

The main arch of the bridge is the most important node of the construction of the project, and the crowd witnessed this exciting moment. The Xiangxi Yangtze River Bridge has created a world first and realized four technological innovations. Among the similar bridges, the span ranks first in the world, and it has realized four major technological innovations in slope stability and comprehensive remediation technology under complex geological conditions, research and construction technology of buckle and hanging system of large span steel box truss arch, standardization research and construction technology of large cable crane, and installation and linear control technology of large span steel box truss arch.

In the process of construction, the builders of the China Railway Bridge Bureau overcame the complex geological conditions on both sides of the strait, the arches are difficult to excavate, the water in the river is deep and rapid, the transport ship is difficult to locate, the gorge is strong all year round, the main arch steel box truss is not easy to lift and many other difficulties, it is difficult to overcome the difficulties on the cliffs, and the "building blocks" in the 100-meter altitude finally make a "rainbow" of the three gorges of the Yangtze River.

Deng Xueguang, a construction worker who is accustomed to "walking in the air", treasures some historical photos of witnessing the growth of the bridge in his mobile phone: underground foundation piles that can only be excavated manually due to the steep terrain, giant steel box trusses hanging in mid-air, and "square inch river wheels" taken by standing on the "Top of the Rainbow"? Behind each photo is the wisdom and sweat of the builders.

Xu Xin, chief engineer of the Xiangxi Yangtze River Bridge, introduced that in the face of layers of dangers and obstacles, the "think tank" composed of 9 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering guided the technical team through difficulties and explored valuable experiences. After the completion of the bridge, a cluster life monitoring and custody system will be installed, and a "smart bridge" will rise in the three gorges.

Yu Hui, chairman of Hubei Zixing Yangtze River Bridge Construction and Development Co., Ltd., told reporters that the construction process of the bridge strictly abided by the concept of "ecology first, environmental protection to build a bridge", did not let a grain of dust spilled into the Yangtze River, the recycling rate of building slag was more than 80%, geological protection was carried out through anti-slip pile and rock mass separation technology, and ecological restoration of the building damage surface was carried out to ensure that the clear water of a river and the green mountains on both sides of the river were not ecologically damaged by the construction of the bridge, and a "green bridge" was built in the Three Gorges Gallery.

The vastness of the river, the barrier between the two sides of the strait, and the inconvenience of traffic exchanges have restricted the economic and social development of the reservoir area, especially the expansion of the pillar industry of citrus and the large-scale development of tourism around the gorge river. After the completion of the bridge, the transportation cost of navel oranges will be greatly reduced. The improvement of transportation conditions will also greatly shorten the time of fresh navel oranges "from the field to the fruit plate", which will help the brand optimization and value improvement of Zigui navel oranges. At this point, the history of the Zigui-Wu Yangtze River Bridge has completely ended, the Yangtze River Bridge has achieved full coverage in all counties and cities in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, and the global tourism pattern will also be greatly improved with the great penetration of the golden tourism route in central China.

It is reported that the Xiangxi Yangtze River Bridge has completed 73.52% of the total project volume. It is expected to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2019.
