I am from Wenzhou City. Wenzhou administers four districts, two cities and five counties, and some customs and habits are different. The "Wenzhou" mentioned in this article, unless otherwise specified, generally refers to Lucheng District and may not be in line with the actual situation of other districts, counties and cities.

Wenzhou people love soy sauce vinegar.
The so-called soy sauce vinegar, that is, soy sauce and vinegar poured together, generally one to two, pay attention to the taste will also put a little sugar or monosodium glutamate or cooking wine or pepper (eating river crab raw pepper is more common).

Wenzhou dialect in the narrow sense refers to the dialect spoken in the urban area of Wenzhou.
The Wenzhou dialect in a broad sense refers to the Wu language Oujiang tablets (Ou language). Most parts of Wenzhou speak this dialect, including Wenzhou dialect (narrow), Yongqiang dialect, Ruian dialect, Yueqing dialect, Yongjia dialect, Pingyang dialect, Wencheng dialect, Pumen dialect and so on.
(A variety of other dialects are spoken in Wenzhou: Wu Taizhou Dialect, Wu Dialect Qu Tablet, MinNan Dialect, commonly known as The Barbarian Min Dong dialect, Sheke dialect, and a dialect island of Wu Taihu Tablets.) )
The traditional standard tone of the Ou language is Ryan. Today's standard tone is Wenzhou urban dialect. This is a bit like the relationship between the northern Wu dialect Suzhou dialect and the Shanghainese dialect.

The old town of Wenzhou is bounded by Oujiang River in the north, Renmin Road in the south (from which the Great South Gate and The Small South Gate are derived), Jiushan Lake in the west, and Huancheng East Road in the east.
There are mountains on the four corners of the old city: Guogong Mountain in the northwest (formerly known as Xiguo Mountain), Songtai Mountain in the southwest, Haitan Mountain in the northeast, Huagai Mountain in the east, and Jigu Mountain in the southeast (Zhongshan Park). This pattern is said to have been determined by the Jin Dynasty feng shui master Guo Pu.
Guo Pu took the image of the Seven Stars of the Big Dipper and used Xiguo Mountain, Songtai Mountain, Haitan Mountain, and Jigu Mountain as bucket spoons, and Xunji Mountain (present-day Xunshan Mountain), Loess Mountain, and Renwang Mountain outside the city as bucket handles, and the highest Huagai Mountain in the city was located on doukou.

Later, people forcibly added a Lingguan Mountain, which became the Seven Stars of the Big Dipper, the Left Auxiliary and the Right Bow.
Therefore, Wenzhou is also known as the Nine Mountains. The famous Nine Mountains Book Club in the history of opera is named after this.
It is said that Guo Pu once said that if the city goes around its peak and does not enter the fight, then the ease can be guaranteed for a long time. Since Wenzhou was built as a doucheng, for thousands of years, neither Fang La nor Wu Kou has indeed been breached. In the 1930s, Wenzhou demolished the city wall, which was later facilitated by the Japanese invasion during the War of Resistance.
Only seven mountains remain in Wenzhou now. Loess Mountain, as the name suggests, the soil is not rock but yellow mud, which was dug up to fill in the river channel during the renovation of the old city, and now only a mound remains. Renwang Mountain, a hill less than ten meters away, was later flattened and converted into a power plant.

Almond tofu is not the same thing as almond tofu.
Almond rot does not use almonds to boil, using agar (stone flowers, cold days), the taste is harder than the general almond tofu, wood lotus tofu, etc., and finally cut into diamond-shaped thin slices, and then added canned fruit to eat (watermelon is heretical).
Authentic almond rot is made from a German-style beer cup.

Wenzhou's fish balls (fish balls) are different from others.
Fuzhou's kind of fish balls that resemble urine cow balls and are wrapped in meat filling, Wenzhou is called Seven Star Pills.
The kind of soft, somewhat tofu-like fish balls, Wenzhou is called white pills.
The fish balls in Wenzhou are more similar to the fish slip when eating hot pot - the shape and size are not very regular, not round balls.
Eat fish balls with pepper.

Most people in Wenzhou know Yangfu Mountain, but they don't know where the name of Yangfu Mountain comes from.
In fact, the Yangfuye faith is a folk belief unique to Wenzhou. But most urban people no longer understand this.
The yangfu temple is now the highest status in Cangnan County.

An important feature of Wenzhou culture: it is located in Wudi and has a Fujian style.
In the history of Wenzhou, an extremely important event was the migration of a large number of immigrants in the five generations of the late Tang Dynasty. A large part of this group of immigrants is from Fujian. Many of the Wenzhou family trees that have survived to this day can be traced back to a place name: Chi'an. Chi'an, now part of Xiapu County, Ningde City, is an important transportation port and transit station on the migration route of migrants, through which a large number of Fujian immigrants went north into Ou, forming a common memory similar to the "Shanxi Locust Tree".
This migration laid the characteristics of Wenzhou culture. Ou is one of the Wu languages that is deeply influenced by the Min language. A few more to eat: Wenzhou's pork dirty powder is very similar to Fuzhou's fishing, Wenzhou's salty tangyuan is the same as Fuzhou's Lantern, and the important position of Suo Noodle Soup and Suo Noodle Soup in folklore is also very similar.
The greatest influence of Fujian culture on Wenzhou is the belief of Chen Jinggu. Chen Jinggu (Lady Linshui, Chen XIV) was originally from Eastern Fujian, while the Beliefs of Chen Jinggu in Wenzhou underwent a large number of changes on the basis of the original, localizing it into Niangniangzi (Journey to the South or The Great Biography of Lingguan). The Wenzhou drum lyrics that sing niangniang lyrics are also the most important song art in southern Zhejiang.

Speaking of Fuzhou, I remembered that the city tree in Wenzhou is also a banyan tree. There are quite tall banyan trees at many intersections near the old town. The largest banyan tree is in Ouhai New Bridge.
The city flower is a camellia flower.

Among the cultural relics protection units in Zhejiang Province, Cheng Rangping's ancestral residence.

His father, a native of Wenzhou and named Cheng Zhiping, moved to Gabon in the 1930s to marry the daughter of a local tribal chief.

Wenzhou people of my generation may remember JuneYao milk.
In fact, there is also a very famous dairy product - panda condensed milk.
In fact, there is another one - when it comes to soy milk, the first reaction is the kind of red/purple soft plastic bag packaging. This is still there, produced by Wenzhou Vegetable Basket Group Soy Products Factory.

Lantern cake is more delicious than the same type of Hangzhou oil pier and Nanjing radish terminal. However, people who are also older and have a small appetite may be able to eat a meal.

About ten years ago, cafes in Wenzhou would sell fried snails and boiled fish. I don't know if it's still so.

The highest-ranking Buddhist temple in Wenzhou is Jiangxin Temple. However, because it is more troublesome to cross the river by boat, the most popular incense is MyokoJi Temple.
Wenzhou's most famous nursery rhyme "Ding Ding" sings: Lonely Old Hall outside the foot of the mountain, Xian Ren Jing on Songtai Mountain, Pig Head Bell in Miaoguo Temple.
Regarding the pig head clock, the popular legend at the moment is that there was a monk who raised money to cast the bell, but bought all the money he got to eat the pig head. Later, he threw all the remaining pig's head bones into the well and pressed them with a large stone, claiming that he had cast the money he had collected for many years into a bell, which would appear after seven days and forty-nine days, and then disappear. Later, a bell did appear in the well, so it was called the pig's head clock.
This legend was newly compiled in the past hundred years. The most original legend is found in Lu Jin's "Records of the Palm of Dong'ou" in the early Qing Dynasty: monks raised money to cast bells, but bought meat and wine to eat, which was reprimanded by monks and laypeople. The monk then jumped into the well. By the time the people fished him up, the monk had turned into a bell.
In fact, the ancient name of this bell is "Jituo Bell". In the Wenzhou dialect spoken by people born around 1910, "Tuo" and "head", "Luo" and "liu" were not pronounced, and then gradually merged, so "Ji Tuo Bell" became "Pig Head Clock". It was probably really difficult to understand why the clock had such a strange name, so the plot of the pig's head was added to the original legend.

Wenzhou is the birthplace of Southern Opera, that is, the birthplace of Chinese Opera.
Wenzhou folk opera is very popular. Traditionally, it is called "Gao Kun Chao Dan, Harmony Begging Rice", that is to say, according to the status, the ranking is: Gao Lu, Kun Qu (Yong Jia Kun Qu, referred to as Yong Kun), Chao Dan (now known as Ou Opera), and He Opera. However, now the most popular is Yongkun and Ou opera, and the development of high cavity and harmony drama is not very good.
There is a Southern Opera Museum in the city, the exhibition is average, but there are often Yongjiakun Opera Troupe or Wenzhou Ou Opera Troupe to perform. Next door to the Southern Opera Museum is Zhu Ziqing's former residence.

Speaking of opera —
Wenzhou's Pingyang, Cangnan and Taishun lines are all popular for puppet shows.
Most of the existing puppet shows in China are hand puppets, marionettes or cane-headed puppets, which are essentially controlled by human hands. And Taishun has a magical medicine puppet that uses gunpowder as a power.
A few years ago, the inheritors of the medicine puppets were also arrested once, because of the secret possession of gunpowder...

Speaking of museums —
The best museum in Wenzhou is the Wenzhou Museum in Century Square.
The most unpopular but worth visiting is the traditional papermaking exhibition hall of Zeya.

Wenzhou is the 130th national historical and cultural city in China.
However, there is not a single national key cultural relics protection unit in Wenzhou (Yongchang Fort, Caowan Mountain Ruins, Zeya Silian Temple, and Guo'an Temple Pagoda are not part of the traditional urban area). This should be unique in the national historical and cultural cities in the Han area.

Wenzhou is a very friendly city in the "sweet and salty dispute". Soy milk, tangyuan, glutinous rice, and rice dumplings are all sweet and salty.
However, when eating breakfast, the most commonly heard is "salty rice sweet syrup" - salty glutinous rice with sweet soy milk.
Wenzhou hold on!
