In the Tilanqiao Historic Feature Reserve on the North Bund in Shanghai, a three-story building in the style of European architecture opposite the famous Jewish Refugee Memorial has a special name - White Horse Cafe.
This is a special café that hides international friendship, and it has crossed the ocean to the delicious taste of kelp coffee and witnessed the Sino-Jewish friendship that spanned centuries.

The White Horse Café is from the hometown of Princess Sisi. In 1939, a Jewish couple (Rudolf Mosberg) who had fled Vienna founded their "second home" in Shanghai and founded the café.
The name "White Horse" is said to be because the Mossbergs love a famous operetta in their hometown, "White Horse Cafe", which is also a kind of remembrance and nostalgia for their hometown life.
Soon after opening, the café quickly became the spiritual home of Shanghai's Jews and one of the popular places for daily gatherings, and Sassoon is said to be a regular visitor here.

When the Mossbergs bought the three-story building with an attic, they designed and renovated the café in the typical Viennese style. It is particularly worth mentioning that, for historical reasons, the Mabai Cafe we see now is the result of the restoration (located 200 meters away from the original site) in a 1:1 ratio of "original" reproduction.
Some of the doors, windows, staircase handrails and other components in the original building have been relocated; the interior decoration details such as coffee bar counters, dining tables and chairs, chandeliers, decorative paintings, etc., have also preserved the Austrian style to the greatest extent.
On the wall of the café, you can see many old photos of the history of that year, recording the good memories of Jewish life in Shanghai and the happy times in the White Horse Café.
At that time, Jews who were good at making bread, coffee or bartending were hired by Mossberg to help in cafes. The atmosphere here is always warm and homely, you can hear the country sounds, chat about home, this is a place where people can relax physically and mentally.
At present, the first and second floors of the café are rest and dining areas (the second floor is closed irregularly during the epidemic period), and the third floor is temporarily closed to the public. There are many choices you can find in the coffee bar on the first floor, German fruit tea, earl latte, rose rose rose tea, white horse Afgador; coffee cappuccino, mocha iced coffee, caramel macchiato, American coffee can also be tried.
