"A Generation of Imperial Masters" Xu Shilin and Dong Zuofu's "Confucian ZhongmingShi"

It is said that Xu Shilin was the first person who dared to shake the dignity of the royal master. His student Hongli (the Qianlong Emperor) was playful as a child. Once, Xu Shilin actually punished him for kneeling and oysters, and the empress became angry, and while pulling her son, she said: "My son is the emperor who reads, and he is also an emperor if he does not read." Xu Shilin did not show weakness and shot back: "Reading is a wise man, and not reading is a fool without a way!" The empress was shocked and let go of her hand------- Xu Shilin (1684---1741), a Confucian, a native of Xujia Village, Wenden County. Born in a poor peasant family, he has been working hard to study since childhood. In 1713, he was a jinshi who assisted the emperor in handling state affairs, and in 1728 he was appointed as the prefect of Anqing, and in 1740 he was appointed as the governor of Jiangsu, and died of illness at the age of fifty-eight. Xu Shilin likang, Yong and Qian dynasties, more than thirty years of "qing diligence and respect", was a famous Qing official in the Qing Dynasty. Xu Shilin was also particularly good at judging cases, and the history books called him "a god who governs prisons like gods." During his tenure as prefect, envoy, and inspector, he conducted a detailed trial, adjudicated many major suspicious cases, corrected and rehabilitated many unjust, false and wrongly decided cases, and won the hearts of the people. Today, the Wenden County Library still contains seventy-two handwritten records of the cases he tried during his tenure. From these cases, we can see Xu Shilin's pragmatic spirit and prudent attitude in enforcing the law. After Xu Shilin's death, the Qianlong Emperor was extremely saddened, calling him "a perfect generation and a model for thousands of years." "A feudal official, who can not only be appreciated by the emperor, but also be able to observe the people's feelings and conform to the will of the people, is indeed rare." Qiankun is a ruthless thing, and the people's society is originally dependent on sexual people. There is no real blood, and the temple is not allowed to speak of the economy. Oral economics is not a true science, and the talent on the face is shallow. The scales and claws were faintly in the clouds, and the divine dragon did not appear in its real body. But all talents can be rich, and if they are not bone stalks, they can be poor. Eyes are not stained with gold and silver, is the hero generation. "------ is excerpted from the "Genealogy of the Dong Family" --- which xu Shilin wrote to his friend Dong Zuofu in the main hall of Dang County, Linjiang Province, Jiangxi Province, when he was an inspector." The poem not only praises the integrity and awe-inspiring righteousness of his friend Dong Zuofu, but also the true portrayal of his own life of honesty and diligence.

Dong Zuofu (1680---1751). The emperor enfeoffed Wen Linlang and sealed the golden plaque of "Confucian ZhongmingShi". Dong Zuofu's grandfather Dong Guozhu was a hereditary grand general on horseback, and his father, Dong Wei, gave Wen LinLang, and I was the eighth grandson of Dong Zuofu. I am proud of my grandfathers!
