From 1986 to 1990, the Hanyu Da Zidian was published in eight volumes, and it is exactly 30 years old. Fushu chased after people, and could not help but remember the executive deputy editor of the Hanyu Da Zidian, the editor-in-chief of the compendium, and my teacher Mr. Li Gefei.
Mr. Li Gefei (1916-2003), whose name is the same as Li Qingzhao's father, Mr. Huang Diancheng, an editorial board member of the Hanyu Da Dictionary and a professor at Xiamen University, once gave a poem as a gift: "The name is just like Yi An Daddy, and Luoyi Fangyuan is not credited." Jiang Han gushed endlessly, like a rafter color pen in the Jun's house. Before his death, he was a professor at Wuhan University and one of the famous "Five Olds and Eight Middle Schools" in the Department of Chinese. He was trained by mr. Liu Boping (赜), Mr. Huang Yaoxian (焯), the second elder of Bo and Yao, and Mr. Huang Jigang (Kan), a master of Chinese studies, who is the so-called famous teacher and senior brother, and has been deeply passed down. He was very knowledgeable and highly moral, and everyone called him "our old man".
In China, from the "Explanation of Characters in Shuowen" to the "Kangxi Dictionary" and the "Zhonghua Da Zidian", there has been a tradition of compiling character books in successive generations. Advancing with the times and practicing in advance is the unremitting pursuit of generations of scholars. But in the second half of the last century, we experienced the "catastrophe", and there are also painful memories of a billion people sharing a copy of the Xinhua Dictionary. At that time, Japanese friends published the "Hanhe Dictionary", and Taiwanese scholars also compiled the "Chinese Dictionary", both of which were huanghuang giant works. The United Nations has restored the legal status of our country, but because we have not published applicable medium and large reference books, we can only continue to use the Chinese dictionary prepared by Taiwan.
From May 23 to June 17, 1975, the State Administration of Publishing Industry held the "Symposium on Planning the Compilation and Publication of Chinese and Foreign Language Dictionaries" at the Oriental Hotel in Guangzhou, and Ge Lao attended the meeting. The meeting was very long and the atmosphere was very depressing. The 160 dictionary planning was difficult to advance, and finally two hard bones remained - the Hanyu Da Zidian and the Hanyu Da Dictionary. It was the dawn of the long night, and it was the darkest time before dawn, and the participants looked at each other, not knowing what was going to happen. Yu Xi, director of the Hubei Provincial Publishing Bureau, keenly sensed that Ge Lao had a relationship in his heart, so he talked with Ge Lao's heart. This combat hero from the New Fourth Army, Su Chongge, a descendant of the Zhanghuang School, solemnly said to Elder Ge: "If you give me guts, I will give you shoulders!" The so-called "guts" refer to academic and professional courage; the so-called "shoulders" refer to organizational and logistical support. Ge Lao has "guts", but it is not big enough to "cover the sky". He hurriedly found Mr. Cui Zhifu, the leader of the publishing department of Sichuan Province, who attended the meeting, pleaded for cooperation, and proposed specific candidates. For example, Mr. Zhao Zhenduo, a professor at Sichuan University, who has learned family law, is the wensheng of Mr. Zhao Shaoxian, a famous phonological hereditary, and the philosopher of Mr. Zhao Youwen, a famous classical literature scholar. As a result, the Hanyu Da Zidian was finally finalized to be jointly undertaken by scholars from Sichuan and Hubei provinces. Ge Lao and Zhao Lao, two former students of Peking University and visiting colleagues of Moscow University, began a sincere cooperation for 16 years, adding a bright color and a magnificent song to the martyr's twilight years.
After the meeting, it was an intense preparatory phase. Ge Lao served as the deputy head of the leading group for the preparation of the Great Zidian, formulating the compilation plan, identifying compilers, coordinating the division of labor, drafting the compilation manual, and so on. The old man must be personally involved, and he will lift a heavy weight. For example, when the two provinces were assigned the task of compilation and everyone was inconclusive, Ge Lao took out a "Kangxi Dictionary" and said that it would be divided according to the page number of the "Kangxi Dictionary", three-fifths of Hubei and two-fifths of Sichuan, with the beginning of the demarcation page as the subject, which belonged to Hubei before and Sichuan in the future. As a result, the head of the demarcation is "sheep", then the "one" department to the "network" department is responsible for Hubei, and the "sheep" department to the "gong" department is undertaken by Sichuan, and the problem is immediately solved. Director Yu Xi once said that GeLao "is the lubricant for the unity and cooperation of the two provinces and the normal operation." Some people often make simple problems complicated and difficult to solve, but Ge Fei is good at sorting out the complexities into simple. It's a high realm. ”
Then, day after day, year after year, it was a dull almost mechanical work, from the gouge of literature and the recording of cards to the trial compilation, the first compilation, the compilation, the preliminary review, the review, the final review, the elder Never slackened, even when he was sick, as the gentleman said in the letter to me, but also "dressed well, strong spirit." I have personally seen Elder Ge repeatedly deliberate on choosing a suitable example sentence, and after thinking about it, I can't help but advise him: "You are in the chest, and the card information is so rich, you can come to hand." If you only need to prove the interpretation, why should it be perfect? Mr. Wan'er smiled, swirled and replied: "The same explanation of a 'put' word, Lin Yutang's example is 'kill people, take away the money', my example is 'give convenience to others, leave the difficulties to yourself'." It goes without saying that good and evil are high, but the best are not easy to get. He also said, "Subtle, how can the writer of the book neglect it!" ”
It is difficult to compile a dictionary, it is especially difficult to compile a large dictionary, and it is difficult to compile a large dictionary that goes beyond the previous revision! Czech Republic (Slovakia?) Zgusta figuratively said that if there is a heinous criminal, do not sentence him to hanging or life imprisonment, but sentence him to a dictionary! Mr. Chen Yuan of China also said emotionally that the work of compiling dictionaries is not done by people, but by saints. White horses are not horses, and saints are not people! There are more than a dozen writing groups in the two provinces of the "Great Dictionary", and hundreds of people have participated in its work, and it is unimaginable to unite all the people to work together and unite as one, and to resolve contradictions and eliminate differences. Director Yu Xi also said that Ge Lao was "frank, humble, sincere, and generous, and regarded fame and fortune as a floating cloud." For the sake of the overall situation, for the sake of work, everywhere people never feel that they have suffered losses. He was innocent of people, and even in that special era of blame, everyone felt that he was a person to work with without having to defend, a friend who could be deeply trusted. "Professor Guo Chengyong of Sichuan Normal University, the editor of the "Great Zidian", is proud. Elder Ge invited him to the house as a guest, knowing that he loved to eat braised meat, so he instructed his master and mother to prepare in advance, and also liked to drink some wine, but the gentleman himself was overwhelmed, so he invited me to accompany the guest, and told him to make him happy, but not to drink too badly. After Mr. Guo returned to Sichuan, he wrote a letter of thanks to mr. Guo, and Elder Ge asked me to reply to the letter, and specially told me that Mr. Guo's word Junshu was forgiven, because it was polite to call people with words. I said in the letter that "Mr. Young Chengting Training", when the elderly reviewed, circled the word "young", said sixty or seventy years old people, you said how people were not appropriate when they were young. Mr. easy to use the word "early", it is really a thousand words. In the early 1980s, the professional title evaluation system that had been frozen for many years was restored, and the scholars who participated in the compilation of the "Great Dictionary" devoted themselves wholeheartedly, but the compilation cycle was long, and the manuscript could not be regarded as a scientific research result. Elder Ge spoke generously everywhere for this reason, and every time people said something, the listeners were all moved. But in the end, the policy was not formulated by him, and the implementation of the policy was not something he could influence, or there were still some scholars who did not get a high-level title, and complained or even scolded Ge Lao. He remembered the dialogue of the Lou Shide brothers in the Tang Dynasty, shi de taught his brother to be an official to be "patient", the brother said: "People have a spit face, just clean." Shi De said, "To be pure is to go against his anger and to dry his ears." Fan Lugong of the Song Dynasty also said that "people can sniff three buckets of vinegar, and Si can be the prime minister." Ge Lao used "spit from the dry nose to suck three buckets of vinegar" as a sentence, repeatedly deliberating on the sentence. Professor Liu Junhui, a member of the editorial board of the "Great Dictionary", saw that Elder Ge was wandering alone and groaning, so he said to "turn around and listen to WanYuansong regardless of his ears." It can be described as magnificent weather, and the battle is also stable. However, Elder Ge thought that there was more than enough elegance and lack of humility, so he was "humble and studious". The "One Character Sutra" uses the "Book of Poetry" ("Lady gentleman, whose manners are one and the same." The allusions of "Yi Yi Xi, The Heart is Like a Knot" and the "Xunzi" "Intention Yi Ye", "One", is one thing in Ge Lao's mind - the compilation of the Hanyu Da Zidian. After I heard that, my heart was very unstable, and I also hugged my husband. He picked up a copy of the Journal of the Japanese Chinese Society (Episode 39) and pointed to a passage in the middle to show me: "No matter who looks at it, this cause can be said to be as arduous and great as the construction of the Great Wall." Like Chinese, we sincerely hope that the two volumes of the Hanyu Da Zidian and the Hanyu Da Dictionary will be published smoothly and completed as soon as possible. At that time, the two books became the Great Wall of Culture, the Double Bi of Chinese. Then he told me, "A person who is cursed is small, and because of a small loss, he will become a sinner for eternity!" After the death of the gentleman, the Lingtang had a deputy bang: "Teach Ze Hu Ou Ya why spit on himself, De Fan Chui will be well known in the future." Although it is an afterthought, it also shows that justice is in the hearts of the people.
Six professors, including Ge Lao and Mr. Zhao Zhenduo, presided over the work for three years in the name of deputy editor-in-chief. During this period, Ge Lao repeatedly resigned, saying that he was not suitable to be the editor-in-chief. The major national project, led by an elderly scholar or a high-ranking official, is a tradition formed by the Kangxi Dictionary and the Siku Quanshu. At that time, the first-class professor of liberal arts in Sichuan and Hubei provinces, at the beginning of the planning of the "Great Zidian", there were liu Boping and Xu Zhongshu, Liu Bolao died in 1978, so he invited the older generation of historians Mr. Xu Zhongshu as the editor-in-chief, when Xu Lao was already 81 years old. Ge Lao and Mr. Zhao were appointed as executive deputy editors-in-chief, and the compilation and final review also implemented the executive deputy editor-in-chief responsibility system from beginning to end. After the whole book was completed, Ge Lao was appointed as the chief editor of the compendium and fought until the merits of the Hanyu Da Zidian were completed. Mr. Li filled in a song of "Zengzi Jintang Yue", and the sentence cloud "Ancient Republishment, Flying Flowers Mistaken jane, Passing on Chinese Glorious Literature". "Trying to sort out the flow of change, difficult, difficult! Xiucai class, ten years of lead linden worm fish, a piece of cold felt, buried in repairs." "Don't be tied up for the sake of the name of the lock, don't save the disease and drown, make up the mole, vomit out the heart and liver a piece of Dan." This is a divine portrayal of Ge Lao's voice. I followed the staff and was ordered by Mr. Ear, and now I have the honor to participate in the revision of the "Hanyu Da Dictionary" and serve as the editor-in-chief of the fascicle, and I once made a lyric: "It is easy and difficult to repair the books in the prosperous world, and the green lights and yellow volumes are mixed with sorrow and joy." If the Hanyu Da Zidian is a cultural monument, then, as a student of Mr. Li, I dare to be bold, but it is no exaggeration to say that Mr. Li Gefei is the founder.
