Emperor Yingwu was not heroic, and the ministers of the Slaughtering Clan were cruel and unkind (Liu Jiyuan)

author:Li Nanfeng

Liu Jiyuan, the half-brother of Emperor Jingzong Liu Ji'en, was also adopted as an adopted son by Emperor Ruizong Liu Jun, and his mother Liu Min was the daughter of Liu Min. After the death of Jingzong, the last emperor of the Northern Han Dynasty, Guo Wuwei was made the new emperor and was crowned Emperor Yingwu by the Liao Dynasty.

Liu Jiyuan served as the governor of Taiyuan during the reign of Emperor Jingzong Liu Ji'en, and after Liu Ji'en was assassinated by Hou Baorong in the twelfth year of the Northern Han Dynasty (the first year of Song Kaibao, 968), Liu Jiyuan was made emperor by Sikong Guo Wuwei, and after succeeding to the throne, he eased tensions with the Liao Dynasty.

Liu Jiyuan was cruel and murderous, and his mother-in-law, Empress Guo, liu Chengjun's wife, and Liu Min's son, were all killed by him, and they also exterminated their subordinates who rebelled against him, all in order to stabilize their throne, and Liu's clan was slaughtered.

Soon after Emperor Yingwu ascended the throne, he listened to Ma Feng's rumors, killed the general Zheng Jin, and favored the eunuch Wei Degui, dismissed wei Li, the commander of the Tuhun Army, and transferred to Liaozhou. Thousands of Tuhun troops disobeyed and requested to take back their lives, but Liu Jiyuan insisted on not allowing it. Later, I heard that Wei Li was complaining behind his back, afraid that he would engage in a mutiny, so he sent someone to kill him. The general Li Yin was upset with Wei Li, and Wei Degui encouraged Liu Jiyuan to send Li Yin to Lanzhou for control, and soon killed Li Yin. The Tuhun army was the main force of the Northern Han army, the commander was killed, the army was disintegrated, and Liu Jiyuan was actually self-destructing the Great Wall.

The continuous infighting within the Northern Han Dynasty undoubtedly weakened its already weakened combat effectiveness, and the Song army took the opportunity to attack, and the first attack failed due to lack of preparation and rescue by the Liao army. In the spring of the second year of Kaibao (969 AD), Zhao Kuangyin, the grandfather of the Song Dynasty, personally led the attack, repelled Liao reinforcements, built a long causeway, and diverted fen water to irrigate jinyang city. The Northern Han Dynasty held on to the dangerous city, and by May of the leap month, the southern city of Jinyang was washed away by water, and the water poured into the city. The chancellor Guo Wuwei attempted to surrender the Song Dynasty and was executed by Liu Jiyuan. The military and civilians of the Northern Han Dynasty finally set up obstacles to block the water outlet. At that time, it was hot and rainy, the Song army lived in the meadows, suffering from diarrhea, and the Khitan added troops to support the Northern Han, so Song Taizu had to order the retreat, discarding countless grain and tea silks, all of which were obtained by the Northern Han. The Northern Han Dynasty received the weight abandoned by the Song army and slightly restored its national strength that was on the verge of exhaustion.

In October of the eighth year of Kaibao (975), Zhao Song attacked the Southern Tang And Li Yu surrendered. Zhao Kuangyin, the taizu of the Song Dynasty, prepared to take advantage of the mighty army and began to intend to retake Yanyun Sixteen Prefectures by the Northern Han Dynasty. In August of the following year, the guards ma jundu commanded the envoy Dang Jin and the Envoy of the Northern Yuan of Xuanhui, Pan Mei, and others to lead the Fifth Route Army to camp under the city of Taiyuan, launching a day and night attack, and launching fierce battles with the Northern Han army and the Khitan army that came to help, in an attempt to recover Yanyun's homeland in one fell swoop. Unexpectedly, Zhao Kuangyin died suddenly, and the Northern Expedition had to be terminated, and the Northern Han Dynasty was able to extend.

In the sixth year of Guangyun (the fourth year of the Song Taiping Revival, 979 AD), the Northern Song Dynasty decided to go north again after pacifying the south, and was personally driven by Zhao Guangyi, the Emperor Taizong of Song (Zhao Guangyi, in order to consolidate his throne). The Song army's offensive was unprecedentedly fierce, and the Liao reinforcements were also repelled one by one, and on the sixth day of May, Liu Jiyuan had no choice but to surrender Kaesong.

Northern Han Dynasty

After Liu Jiyuan surrendered, he was appointed as the General of the Right Guard and was given the title of Duke of Pengcheng Commandery. In the sixth year of the Reign of Song Taiping (981), he was enfeoffed as the Duke of Pengcheng. In the third year of Yongxi (986 AD), he was again appointed as an envoy of the Baokang Army. He died on December 18, 992 (January 25, 992 AD) in the second year of Chunhua, and was posthumously awarded the title of Zhongshu Ling (中書令) and posthumously honored as the King of Pengcheng County.

Liu Jiyuan reigned for 11 years, brutal and unkind, slaughtering the chancellor Zongfu, but also iron bones, with the style of his maternal grandfather, outside the Zhao song repeatedly surrendered, there was no power to persuade Guo Wuwei to surrender or even prepare for mutiny, but the Yingwu Emperor Liu Jiyuan remained unmoved, until the city was destroyed and captured, it was also considered a Hanzi.
