One-armed general Zuo Qi: During the Long March, he shot down an enemy plane with a rifle and became a left-pen calligrapher in his later years

author:One more history

Zuo Qi's record seems to be a myth. In the era of scarcity, he shot down enemy aircraft with his rifle and forged a line of defense with his flesh and blood. In order to save supplies, he insisted on not using anesthesia, so he was reprimanded by Dr. Bethune.

After his injuries were healed, he regrouped and used his scarred body to make great contributions to the anti-Japanese resistance, and was praised by Chairman Mao as an example.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he recuperated, practiced a good calligraphy, and became a well-known left-pen calligrapher.

Founding Major General Zuo Qi

Zuo Qi was born in February 1911 to a poor peasant family in Yongxin County, Jiangxi Province, when the social situation was complicated and the family was not rich. As he grew up, he began to help his father make ends meet.

Although he was talented, his family was poor and could not support his studies. Zuo Qi understood this fact, but was unwilling to give in to reality. He knew that if he gave up the opportunity to learn knowledge, he would be trapped in this small mountain village for the rest of his life.

In order to maintain his studies, he raised ducks and sold bamboo utensils in his spare time. Finally, with the support of his family, he studied for six years, namely 3 years of private school and 3 years of national elementary school.

Zuo Qi has had his own ideas since he was a child, because after reading books for several years, his vision is more long-term than that of ordinary people. When his fellow villagers were still struggling with food and clothing, he began to look for a way out for himself and the country.

In 1928, he joined the peasant movement and in 1929 he joined the Communist Youth League of China. Since then, his life has changed dramatically.

In 1932 he joined the Communist Party of China and in the same year he joined the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. At first, he just wanted to find a way out for himself, but after joining the youth league, he wanted the younger generation to have books to read and to study. After joining the Communist Party of China, he was influenced by the ideas of his comrades and gradually began to take it as his duty to protect the people and protect China.

Smoke and smoke are everywhere, and sparks are burning. In 1934, the fifth anti-encirclement and suppression campaign failed, and the main central Red Army was forced to make a strategic transfer. On this journey, the Red Army crossed the heavy front of the Kuomintang, but due to the wrong leadership of Bogu and others, the Red Army has always been at a disadvantage.

It was not until Chairman Mao stood up to preside over the Zunyi Conference that the Long March began to show a turning point. Zuo Qi shot down the plane with his rifle, and it was during this long march.

In 1938, Zuo Qi

At that time, the elite equipment of the Kuomintang was advanced, which was frightening to watch, but the Red Army dared to use guns and knives to confront artillery and aircraft. In April of that year, the Central Red Army suffered heavy losses in the Battle of Jiangxi, and in order to alleviate the pressure of the Central Red Army, the Red Sixth Army broke through from the Xianggan Soviet District to the west to develop guerrilla warfare in Central Hunan Province.

In September, the force reached Guangxi, where they were intercepted by elite Kuomintang troops. Li Zongren on the Kuomintang side sent air forces to fly planes to sneak into the Red Sixth Army several times. This aircraft is the AVR0637 produced in the United Kingdom in 1932, the aircraft is equipped with two machine guns, extremely lethal, in the face of this behemoth, everyone can only hide in Tibet, there is no way.

Zuo Qi knew the importance of the Long March, and such a stalemate would be of no benefit to the Red Army and would probably cause a fatal blow. So he gathered the fighters to aim at the plane and shoot with rifles, and the crowd shot at his rhythm, not expecting to actually shoot the plane down.

Everyone was overjoyed, but Zuo Qi modestly said that this was the result of everyone's joint efforts. Zuo Qi's move not only broke the passive situation of the Red Army, but also boosted morale and added confidence in victory to the Long March.

The legend of Zuo Qi does not stop there, in ancient times, it was related to feather scraping bone to cure poison, and now there is Zuo Qi's broken arm without anesthesia.

In 1937, after the July 7 Incident, the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression broke out in an all-round way, and the Japanese insulted our compatriots and offended China, and people with lofty ideals rose up to resist. In 1938, Wang Zhen, commander of the 359th Brigade of the 12nd Infantry Division of the Eighth Route Army, received an information that the Japanese troops stationed in Wei County, Hebei Province, were preparing to transport supplies.

At that time, the Eighth Route Army was short of materials, and if this batch of supplies could be intercepted, it would not only seriously damage the Japanese army, but also make the overall strength of the Eighth Route Army go to a higher level. Moreover, at this time, the Eighth Route Army surrounded laiyuan county, and under such conditions, it was only a matter of time before their supplies were cut off and the county town was taken to crush the enemy army.

However, if the Japanese troops in Wei County arrived in time and let them form an encirclement circle inside and outside, then this battle would inevitably be bloody.

Therefore, he sent the Eighth Route Army to set up an ambush in the area of Mingpu in Wei County, where the Flying Fox Yu was dangerous and easy to conceal, so Wang Zhen chose this place as an ambush point. Wang Zhen led his men from the 16th to the 17th, and finally saw the traces of the Japanese army, and they had 35 vehicles of supplies.

Seeing this truck of supplies, the Sleepy Eighth Route Army suddenly had the spirit, and the soldiers pulled up the buried mines and caught the Japanese army by surprise. At first, the Japanese were defeated, but they were well equipped and soon gained ground with six machine guns.

Seeing that the war had reached a stalemate again, Zuo Qi was in danger, so he analyzed the terrain and used his height advantage to organize the Eighth Route Army to attack with grenades. At the same time, he organized sharpshooters to kill enemy gunners, and the Japanese mortars could not be used, so they could not attack the Eighth Route Army on the mountain.

In this way, the Eighth Route Army occupied an absolute advantage. Seeing that the Eighth Route Army was about to take down the enemy at once, the bad news suddenly came -- the heavy machine gun of the Eighth Route Army was malfunctioning at this time.

At that time, Zuo Qi was very close to the heavy machine gun, and he first found the problem and shouted "Heavy machine gun!" Heavy machine guns! Why doesn't it ring? He shouted as he stepped forward to troubleshoot. When he got up, the Japanese also targeted him, and while he was troubleshooting, the Japanese hit him in the right arm.

The soldiers next to him saw that he had been shot and quickly shouted for someone to pull him down. But Zuo Qi ignored the pain in his right arm and insisted on fighting. Helpless and weak, he picked up the combat knife, and before he could swing it twice, he fainted. His indomitable momentum infected the warriors around him, and the crowd shouted "Kill! kill! kill! "Completely annihilated the Japanese army with one blow."

The ambush was very fruitful, not only destroying 35 Japanese vehicles, but also capturing two Type 92 infantry guns, one mortar, twelve light and heavy machine guns, and a number of rifle bullets. The Japanese suffered heavy losses, and Captain Tahara committed suicide by caesarean section during the battle.

Although this battle was fought beautifully, the number of casualties of our army was also shocking. According to statistics, there were eight people left in the entire second company, not to mention the number of people who were shot and injured.

After the battle, because of the fear that the Japanese army would come back, he did not rescue the wounded on the spot, but evacuated to Lingqiu County with the wounded. After this battle, the soldiers' spirits and bodies were under heavy pressure, and they endured the bodies that fell at any time, carrying, supporting, and snuggling with their comrades to the 359th Brigade of Shilu Village.

When he arrived at Shilu Village, Zuo Qi had a high fever and was difficult to retreat, as if he would lose his breath at any time. Fortunately, Dr. Bethune was here, and he had the heart to save Zuo Qi's right arm. But Zuo Qi had been shot for too long, and had only been briefly bandaged on the battlefield, and the wound had already been infected, and even Dr. Bethune could do nothing.

Dr. Bethune

Dr. Bethune used a sterilized blade to remove the rotten flesh little by little, carefully saving Zuo Qi's life. After the operation, Zuo Qi was not out of danger. When he woke up again, he looked at his empty right arm, and there was a little more desolation in his eyes. At this time, he was only twenty-seven years old.

From the moment he joined the army, he knew that his life had long since ceased to belong to him. Although he was sad about losing his right arm, he did not regret it half a point, and he was lucky enough to survive on the battlefield.

The reason why he felt desolate was not only for himself, but also for the living lives that could never be returned on the battlefield. At this moment, he only wanted to expel the Japanese Kou as soon as possible and return the people to a peaceful and tranquil homeland.

After a period of recuperation, Zuo Qi's injury gradually improved. When Bethune changed his medicine, he routinely played morphine to relieve pain, but Zuo Qi felt that his injury would not be life-threatening, and there were countless people outside who needed morphine to save his life, so he told Bethune that he did not use morphine.

Bethune only felt incredible, but when he saw Zuo Qi clench his teeth and not shout even if he was sweating in pain, his heart was touched when he saw life and death.

During Zuo Qi's recuperation period, he also always paid attention to the battle situation, and the injury to his right arm directly affected the accuracy of his shot. He felt that going to the battlefield in this way would undoubtedly be a waste of bullets.

The cripple of his arm made him increasingly depressed. In order not to become a wasted man, he practiced writing with his left hand, laboring with his left hand, and using his only left hand to exert what was left.

He said: "Every day I read the enthusiastic letters of my comrades-in-arms, and the brotherly love warmed me, making me feel great encouragement, and there was light in front of me. After the pain subsided, I learned to write with my left hand, crippled? No, I am determined to be a crippled man! ”

Later, Zuo Qi participated in the Battle of Wutai Mountain, participated in the large-scale production of Nanniwan, participated in the operation to defend the Yellow River, and used his left hand to cast one wall after another, and threw his remaining strength into the revolution.

In the Battle of Mount Wutai, he did not close his eyes for seven days and seven nights, nor did he shout a word of bitterness. In the large-scale production of Nanniwan, he ate less and drank less, and did not shout a word. In the operation to defend the Yellow River, he was diligent and honest, and did not shout tired.

Chairman Mao once praised him: "I would like to ask comrades to learn from the examples of comrades Chen Zongyao and Zuo Qi, which were reported by the Liberation Daily recently. ...... Comrade Zuo Qi, the political commissar of the regiment, lost a hand in the war, and when he was in the wilderness, he could not take the hoe, so he cooked for the soldiers in the camp and picked them up the mountain to feed the soldiers, which made the soldiers inexplicably moved. All our Party cadres must learn from the spirit of these two comrades, mingle with the broad masses, and overcome all bureaucracy divorced from the masses. ”

Zuo Qi did not stop for a moment, as if he were a fighting machine that would not shout tired. In 1949, he marched 3,000 kilometers into Xinjiang and made immortal contributions to the cause of ethnic unity and liberation.

Nanniwan large-scale production

In 1952, he was appointed political commissar of the Southern Xinjiang Military Region and threw himself into the construction of the frontier. While in southern Xinjiang, he often talked to the local population and looked for the expectations of the people from their mouths. He made field investigations, produced and developed according to local conditions, never talked about goals, and the people called him a person who did practical things.

When talking to the people, he never put up a shelf, and even if the people criticized him, he listened with an open mind. At first, due to cultural differences and language differences, Zuo Qi was often misunderstood by the local people when doing things. Whenever this happened, he always came to the door with gifts to apologize in person, and was affectionately known by the Uyghurs as "Zuoqi Aji Ahong".

He was awarded the rank of major general in 1955, also known as the "One-Armed General". In his spare time, Zuo Qi did not waste time. He not only practiced writing with his left hand, but also created his own left-handed calligraphy. In 1989, his name was also listed in the "Who's Who of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Seal Engraving", and he became a left-pen calligrapher in the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

His deeds are talked about, and what really touched people's hearts was not only his heroic deeds of resisting Japan, but also his spirit of being able to survive even in the face of adversity.

If ordinary people lose their right arm, they will have the intention of retreating home, and even create a shadow on the battlefield. But Zuo Qi was able to pick himself up again and continue to shine, his blood infected everyone, and he deserved to be the founding hero.

Zuo Qi died on August 26, 1998, at the age of 87.

In his later years, zuo qi

There are many brave and fearless people like him, but most of them are drowned in time, and even their names are forgotten. But without their spilled blood, there would be no peace and stability for us today.

When the revolutionary martyrs fought against the Japanese army, they never thought of leaving a name in history. All they wanted was to drive out the enemy and return the mountains and rivers to me. Their righteousness is touching, but their deeds are rarely known.

Without experiencing that period of time, I can't imagine the pain, each of them is a myth, and their story is far more wonderful than the anti-Japanese drama. In that era of lack of medical treatment and medicine, the blood they shed and the injuries they suffered were far more painful than the anti-Japanese drama.

"The body is dead and the spirit is the spirit, and the soul is resolute and the ghost is the male." They should not be forgotten by history, let alone drowned in the long river of history, they will always live in our hearts.
