White Sands Conference: Illuminating the Dawn of Victory in the South China Sea Toward Liberation| Century-Old Memories red South China Sea (16)

The torrent of history swept away the sand and left gold; the rings of the times crushed the darkness and restored the light. At the important moment of liberation in the South China Sea, a meeting was secretly held at the home of Du Lu, secretary of the South Sanhua Working Committee of the Communist Party of China. According to the arrangements of the meeting, the Cpc Nansanhua Working Committee quickly formed the Nansanhua People's Guerrilla Group to carry out armed struggle; developed party and group organizations, and mobilized the masses to form underground peasant associations...

On the eve of liberation, Nanhai County set up 3 district working committees, 9 party branches and party groups, with a total of 55 party members and 12 league members, laying a solid foundation for the liberation of the South China Sea. In order to record this important meeting related to the liberation of the South China Sea, later generations called it the "White Sands Conference" in the name of the meeting place.

Secretly convene the "White Sands Conference"

Deploy 4 important tasks to welcome liberation

In the South China Sea in May, the summer is getting stronger. The old man outside the rattan mat factory on Yongbian Straight Street in Baisha Community is sitting at the door weaving rattan utensils. Half a century ago, DuLu's grandmother, aunt, and sister were doing the same thing in the same position. However, their intention in weaving rattan was not only to give people a cool feeling, but also to cover Du Lu and other Communists who held a revolutionary meeting in the house.

In order to strengthen the leadership of the people's revolutionary struggle in the Kuomintang-ruled areas, in February 1946, the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China appointed Du Lu, a member of the Communist Party of China, to serve as a special commissioner in Nanhai, and the task entrusted to him was to restore the party's organization, develop progressive forces, and carry out revolutionary struggle. Not long after, Du Lu successfully accepted the organizational relations of the CCP members hidden in Nanhai County and resumed party activities. Among them, Du Lu's residence is one of the important positions.

Subsequently, higher-level party organizations transferred a number of party members and cadres from other places to work in the South China Sea. With the exception of a small number of Party members who infiltrated the Kuomintang political departments, most of them hid in urban and rural schools and carried out covert activities under the cover of the teaching profession. Since then, the people's revolutionary struggle in the South China Sea has been revived under the leadership of the Communist Party.

In June 1949, the Cpc's Southern Sanhua Working Committee held a meeting at Du Lu's home. At the meeting, the Nansanhua Work Committee deployed four important tasks in accordance with the spirit of the instructions of the Pearl River Prefectural Committee of the CPC to "create conditions, carry out armed struggle, and greet liberation":

(1) Form armed contingents to carry out armed struggle; strengthen the control and incitement of the Second Company of the Kuomintang Police in Sanshui County; and require party organizations in all localities to master as many township and village self-defense officers and weapons as possible.

(2) Strengthen the united front work of the local powerful factions in Sanshui and strive to draw them closer to the Communist Party, focusing on Ou Fang, who controls the armed forces, and winning them to revolt or surrender when conditions are ripe.

(3) Strengthen propaganda work and carry out political offensives.

(4) To develop Party members, develop underground peasant associations and legal mass organizations, and strengthen revolutionary forces.

Spread revolutionary ideas

Unite the forces of all sectors of society

After the meeting, some party members and teachers took the school as a position to spread revolutionary ideas to students in the school; in the name of home visits, they talked with parents to do propaganda and education work; some organized basketball teams in the local area to carry out cultural and recreational activities to unite and educate a group of young people outside the school; and some supplemented some textbook textbooks for primary schools in the Liberated Areas in their language classes.

Slowly, some gentry and security chiefs who were inclined to progress and sympathized with the peasants' suffering gradually joined the ranks of the anti-"three marches" (conscription, grain collection, and taxation), and expanded the united front for survival at all levels. In order to evade the Expropriation of the Kuomintang, the farmers in the South China Sea came up with various ways to deal with it. Most of the peasants in Dali ran away from home after lunch, leaving the expropriators empty; in Xiqiao Lambzhou Village, they were looking for someone to send a sentry and promptly notify the conscripted personnel to recuse themselves in advance... Soon, the anti-"three marches" struggle in the South China Sea developed from a spark of sparks to a burning trend.

Under the leadership of the Nanhai Party organization, the activists of the Peasants' Association acted in unison in the dead of night, secretly stuffing leaflets signed by the Nansanhua People's Guerrillas into the doors of the masses; posting them in public places and places on major traffic routes; and throwing them into mailboxes and sending them to the homes of local tycoons and inferior gentry and Kuomintang township politicians.

Leaflet after leaflet promptly relayed to the broad masses the news of the victory in the Liberation War, which encouraged the masses' confidence in uniting with the enemy to meet the liberation. On the contrary, the local tycoons and inferior gentry and the Kuomintang township politicians were floating in the hearts of the people, anticipating the imminent collapse of the Kuomintang regime and putting an end to the arrogance of the past. The powerful political offensive formed by the leaflets has created a good political environment for the liberation of the South China Sea.

Restore the meeting scene

Inherit the revolutionary spirit

In addition to the former site of the Baisha Conference, the Baisha community also has many red revolutionary resources, such as the former site of the liaison point of the Nanhai County Party Committee in 1928. In Nanjiao Village, where Du Lu is located, there are also important revolutionary figures such as Du Guodong, Du Guobiao, and Du Fu (formerly known as Du Guokang), who successively participated in the revolution during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and contributed to the cause of the liberation of the Chinese people, and even sacrificed their precious lives. The revolutionary deeds of the "Four Dus" (Du Lu, Du Guodong, Du Guobiao, Du Fu) in Baisha are passed on by word of mouth in the Baisha community.

In order to better inherit the history of the community, the Baisha community transformed the Baisha Grand Temple into a nostalgia museum in 2018. Among them, the red family style exhibition hall describing the revolutionary deeds of the "Four Dus" defending the family and defending the country is one of the most core parts of the exhibition hall. "Because of the red family style exhibition hall, the nostalgia hall has also become a patriotic education base for the community." According to the staff of the Baisha community, more and more students and young generations have relived this glorious history through the exhibition board.

What is even more gratifying is that with the efforts of everyone, the deeds of the "Four Dus" are being collected little by little, and the character image of the "Four Dus" has become more and more plump. "We will restore the scene of the 'White Sands Conference' in the form of sculptures in the Nostalgia Museum." The staff member said that at present, the project has been finalized to design the plan, and it is planned to officially appear in the Xiangxiang Museum before July 1 to welcome the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
