Beijing, 29 Sep (CNBC) -- According to the "News and Newspaper Abstracts" of the Voice of China of the Central Radio and Television Corporation, Liu Yongtan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor of Harbin Institute of Technology, has devoted himself to China's coastal defense science and technology undertaking for 40 years, successfully developed China's first new system long-range detection radar for the sea, and built an indestructible Coastal Defense Great Wall for the motherland.
In 1936, Liu Yongtan was born in Nanjing, in an era of internal and external troubles, he had a dream of a strong country very early.
Liu Yongtan: As long as the book is read well, the desire to be a strong country can be realized in the future, because the country is weak.
With the determination to devote himself to the industrialization of the motherland, Liu Yongtan was admitted to Harbin Institute of Technology with excellent results in 1953, and was subsequently sent by the school to Tsinghua University to study radio technology. In 1979, Liu Yongtan was sent to the United Kingdom for further study.
Liu Yongtan: Hungry to absorb knowledge, enrich skills, improve theory, but also feel that the opportunity is rare.
Among the more than a thousand types of radars in the world today, the new system radar not only represents the development trend of modern radar, but also plays an important role in navigation, fisheries, coastal oil development and other fields. At that time, Liu Yongtan decided to create a new system radar road in China.
Liu Yongtan: This kind of radar we want to develop at home, it is recommended that the country to engage in this new system, it is possible that the new system can solve many problems that the old microwave radar can not solve.
With the support of the state, after 10 months of hard work, Liu Yongtan and his team of 6 people wrote a plan of more than 200,000 words, opening thousands of experiments and tens of thousands of data collections around the clock.
After 8 years of radar testing, the new system radar technology finally made the target appear on the screen. In 2011, Liu Yongtan's team successfully developed a new system radar with all-day, all-weather and long-distance detection capabilities, which marked a major breakthrough in China's long-distance detection technology for the sea. In the face of achievements, Liu Yongtan always said that this is the credit of the team.
Liu Yongtan: Because this is a team thing, it is a completely innovative thing, and I can never do such a big thing alone.
From the germination of the ambition to serve the country in childhood, to the return of school to build the "Great Wall of Coastal Defense", Liu Yongtan has dedicated his life to the radar cause of our country. As the founder of China's radar of the new system of sea, Liu Yongtan, with his profound feelings of home and country and the spirit of scientific exploration, climbed the peak of scientific and technological innovation, and built a spiritual highland of not forgetting his original intention and serving the country with science and technology.
