The Huangpu clan was the most important force for Chiang Kai-shek, who was originally a rising star of the Kuomintang and was far less senior than Wang Jingwei, Hu Hanmin, and others, but he relied on the support of the Huangpu students to grasp the army, thus defeating a group of elders and seizing power.
With this origin, as long as he is from Huangpu and loyal to him, even if his ability is insufficient, he can be reused, the most typical example is Hu Zongnan.
Of course, there are no absolutes in the world, and Yu Chengwan, who is also the first phase of Huangpu with Hu Zongnan, has a very tortuous life, he made great achievements in the War of Resistance Against Japan, but he was punished by Chiang Kai-shek for risking death to break through, and basically did not have the opportunity to participate in field battles after that.
In 1950, he moved to Hong Kong to settle down, and could have lived the life of a rich man, but after 5 years, he was killed by the underworld, and there is a saying that chiang Kai-shek ordered the black hand. As soon as he died, his family lost his main heart, and his daughter later became a famous star. Such an ending is truly lamentable.

Born in Taishan, Guangdong in 1902, Yu Chengwan studied at Panyu Normal School and Guangdong Railway College in his early years, and had a good cultural foundation, so after graduating from Huangpu Phase I, he chose a job in party affairs and politics. Perhaps it was the national turmoil that stimulated him, and in 1931 Yu Chengwan turned to the army as an army instructor.
3 years later, Yu Chengwan became a regimental commander under the 49th Division of the "Miscellaneous Brand" unit, and his classmates at this time were basically at the level of brigade commander and division commander, so he was indeed not outstanding in comparison, but during the War of Resistance Against Japan, he achieved "Pengcheng Wanli Fame and Fame".
In the battles of Songhu, Wuhan, Nanchang, Gao'an, Shanggao, Changsha, and Zhejiang, Yu Cheng fought bloody battles with the Japanese and Kou many times, and gradually gained fame.
Especially in the Battle of Shanggao, Yu Chengwan, who was already the commander of the 57th Division of the 74th Army, led his troops to hold the position of Xiapi Bridge, strongly blocked the 34th Division of the Japanese Kou, and made great contributions to the victory of the battle, so the 57th Division was crowned with the glorious title of "Tiger Ben Division".
At that time, there was also an interesting phenomenon, Yu Chengwan's 74th Army, the commander Wang Yaowu was a third-term student of Huangpu, in front of everyone Yu Chengwan called Wang Yaowu a military commander, and privately Wang Yaowu called Yu Chengwan a senior.
The highlight of Yu Chengwan's life was at the Battle of Changde in 1943, when he had only more than 8,000 people in his hands, while the Japanese army mobilized nearly 40,000 people to attack, and the disparity in numbers was a bit large. Moreover, the weapons and firepower of the Japanese army were far superior to those of Yu Cheng Wanbu.
There was a gap in all aspects, if other troops might hold for four or five days, they would abandon the city and flee, but Yu Cheng Wanjian led his troops to hold on for half a month.
At the last moment of garrisoning Changde, Yu Chengwan only had more than three hundred people left around him, and the reinforcements he had been waiting for were delayed, and finally he could only choose to break through.
Fortunately, after breaking out of the encirclement with the remnants of fifty or sixty men, he made contact with the nearest reinforcements and recaptured Changde the next day with reinforcements. This performance was already rare to tell the truth, but his act of breaking through was considered by Chiang Kai-shek to be a disobedience to military orders to abandon the city, so at the celebration banquet for the reconquest of Changde, Yu Chengwan was taken away.
In order for his subordinates to fight to the death, Chiang Kai-shek was originally prepared to shoot Yu Chengwan to set an example, not to mention that Chiang Kai-shek could not do it, and Long Muhan and Xue Weiying in the Huangpu Phase I all died because of this.
However, Yu Chengwan did his best in Changde, so the whole country hoped that he could continue to resist Japan, and with the intercession of Wang Yaowu, Sun Lianzhong and others, the Military Justice Department changed the sentence of Yu Chengwan to two years in prison.
Although Yu Chengwan was released from prison early after Wang Yaowu's many intercessions, after all, he left a bad impression on Chiang Kai-shek, so he could no longer command the main force.
After Yu Chengwan regained his freedom, he thought that the patriotic soldiers who died in the defense of Changde should not be forgotten, so he specially found the writer Zhang Hexhui, hoping that the latter could record those magnificent deeds.
Zhang Hexhui was initially reluctant, but after reading the material, he was deeply moved, and immediately wrote a military anti-war novel "Long Live the Tiger", which made the 57th Division and Yu Chengwan famous.
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Yu Chengwan finally had the opportunity to regain control of the army, but the 26th Army under his command was only newly formed, and its task was not to fight in the field but to garrison Yunnan.
At this time, Yu Chengwan also seemed to see it, anyway, basically did not fight, then used his position to make money, and he planned the back road early, let his wife take the children to Hong Kong to settle down. Therefore, throughout the liberation war, Yu Chengwan basically had no chance to show his face.
After the Luhan Uprising of the "King of Yunnan" at the end of 1949, the 26th Army was either disbanded or annihilated, and Yu Chengwan himself flew to Taiwan to report for duty, and Chiang Kai-shek did not attack him at that time, so he also went to Hong Kong to reunite with his family on the pretext of returning to the mainland to fight guerrillas.
In Hong Kong, he has a lot of real estate, and he also runs a rice shop, grocery store, farm and other businesses, at least without worrying about money, and lives a very leisurely life. But because of this, it has attracted the covetousness of a group of outlaws.
On the night of August 27, 1955, Yu Chengwan's Ping Shan apartment was robbed by a group of bandits, and he himself died that night. Who is the murderer is still a mystery, some say that the bandits shot, some say that the police killed by mistake, and some people say that it is Chiang Fang's agent, because Yu Chengwan has a lot of resentment when talking about Chiang Kai-shek with his old friends in Huangpu in Hong Kong.
Poor generation of anti-Japanese famous generals eventually fell into the hands of Xiao Xiao.
If Yu Cheng dies, the family road will fall. Daughter Yu Sally entered the entertainment circle in order to survive, is one of the famous stars in Hong Kong in the 70s, the loss of her father has a great impact on her, so that she has been insecure, there have been two marriages have given everything, but both met people are not ladylike and dismal.
After aging and fading, he did not have the opportunity to appear in movies again, and could only live on the stalls, living in a cockroach-filled dark alley.
If Yu Chengwan hadn't died early, Yu Sally could have become a rich lady, but alas.
Of course, Yu Chengwan's contribution to the anti-Japanese resistance is still worth remembering, in 2010, there was a film and television drama "Blood Lonely City" that told the story of the defense of Changde, they are also heroes!
