Do you know the composer Liu Xue'an?

Maybe you don't know, but do you know the song "When the Sun Comes Again"?

"Good flowers don't bloom often, and good times don't always bloom. After leaving tonight, He Rijun will come again...", this popular song was composed by composer Liu Xue'an.

Liu Xue'an created "He Rijun Again", which became famous in one fell swoop, and this famous song that has been popular for decades has brought brilliance to his life, but it has also brought more sadness and misery.

How "He Jun's Return" was born

It is said that at the end of 1936, Shanghai Yihua Film Company planned to shoot a song and dance film "Three Stars with the Moon", starring the famous singer Zhou Xuan, and director Fang Peilin specially asked to meet Liu Xue'an.

Liu Xue'an, a native of Tongliang County, Sichuan Province, grew up learning music with his eldest brother, his mother, eldest brother and sister all contracted lung disease and died, liu Xue'an had to drop out of school at the age of 13 to earn a living. In the autumn of 1930, Liu Xue'an was admitted to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and together with He Luting, Jiang Dingxian and Chen Tianhe, he was known as the four disciples of the famous music educator Huang Zi. Another teacher of Liu Xue'an was the famous Russian composer and pianist Qi Erpin, who introduced Liu Xue'an's "Chinese Suite" to Europe and the United States to play. In 1935, Qi Erpin wrote in the article "Modern Chinese Music": "Liu Xue'an, a very young man, showed a distinctly Chinese flavor in his piano works, short songs and small pieces, and was a very promising composer. "Liu Xue'an is a little famous for composing music, so the director found him.

Director Fang Peilin

"The song and dance film "Three Stars with the Moon" needs a theme song," director Fang Peilin warmly invited, "I hope you can compose music for this film!" ”

"It's a dance song, it's not yet titled, and it was an improvisation I made at the tea party for the graduation of the music college." Liu Xue'an listened to the plot introduction and took out a tango dance song and handed it to Fang Dao.

Originally, in July 1936, the 7th Student Self-Government Association of Shanghai National Conservatory of Music held a tea party for the 4th graduating class, and the lower class students proposed that each senior student compose and play a musical work. Liu Xue'an thought of his classmates and lovers, but often had the pain of parting, so he created a tango dance song. Gora, a Russian female classmate, immediately tried on the piano, and the flowing notes attracted a round of applause.

Director Fang Peilin took the dance music and was very happy about the past. He directly approached the screenwriter Huang Jiamo and asked him to fill in the lyrics, and "He Rijun's Return" was born.

Liu Xue'an saw the lyrics and felt that some words and phrases such as "After drinking this cup, please come in a small dish" and so on were somewhat vulgar, but because of the emotional face, they did not propose it to director Fang Peilin, but only used the pen name of "Yanru" when signing.

This is a narrative about the birth of "When the Sun Comes Again".

In addition, there is another record that Liu Xue'an's lover was also a sister Sun Dezhi who died suddenly at Guangci Hospital (now Ruijin Hospital), Liu Xue'an rushed to the hospital when he heard the news, saw the nurse carrying Sun Dezhi's body, Liu Xue'an yelled: "Don't touch it!" ”

Liu Xue'an rushed up and kissed the face of the changing person, and tears flowed. After Sun Dezhi's body was transported away, Liu Xue'an moved a chair and sat at the door of the morgue, guarding his lover all night. The next day, in the funeral home's spiritual hall, Liu Xue'an wore a black suit, tied a black tie, and stood behind his lover's parents with a portrait of Sun Dezhi. After the funeral, Liu Xue'an hid in the borrowed apartment all day, played the piano to express his sorrow, and created a slow four-beat tango song "He Rijun Again".

Composer He Luting

He Luting, a friend of the same window, came to visit Liu Xue'an, and when he saw that he was gaunt, he pulled him to the dance hall to relax. That day, Liu Xue'an returned home, and suddenly inspiration rushed to his heart, and the score and lyrics both came to mind, so he wrote with a stroke of his pen:

Good flowers don't bloom very often,

Good times don't always come.

Sadness to relieve the frown,

Tears sprinkled with acacia tape,

After parting tonight,

How many days will you come back?

It is rare to get drunk a few times in life,

What if you don't like it.

Come and come,

Let's talk about it after drinking this cup.

Stop singing Yang Guan Die,

Re-energize the white jade cup.

Attentive and frequent greetings,

Firmly caress the king's arms.

After parting tonight.

How many times in life can you get drunk,

What if you don't like it,

One more drink,

Dry.

Thus, "The Return of He Rijun" was born. In 2014, Mr. Li Mingzhong wrote in China Art News that the lyrics and songs of "He Rijun's Return" were all composed by Liu Xue'an.

After the death of Liu Xue'an's lover Sun Dezhi, Liu Xue'an fixed monthly mailing living expenses to her parents until he was unable to protect himself during the Cultural Revolution.

Zhou Xuan sang "When the Sun Comes Again"

Zhou Xuan, the star of "Three Stars with the Moon", got the score of "He Rijun Again", hummed it, and felt very beautiful, so he took "He Rijun Again" to Paramount to audition.

On that day, Liu Xue'an deliberately rushed to sit quietly in the audience, feeling uneasy in his heart: Will "When the Sun Jun Comes Again" be popular?

In the audience, some people in the music industry whispered: "Liu Xue'an is an academic, living on the ivory tower, how can he write songs that the people like?" "Today the joke is big, see how Liu Xue'an will see people again."

Zhou Xuan

Zhou Xuan stepped onto the stage, the band played the prelude, her melancholy and mournful songs resounded all around, and the audience was silent. At the end of the song, Zhou Xuan bowed to the curtain, and the applause and cheers sounded like thunder.

Liu Xue'an trembled with excitement and quietly walked out of the Baile Gate.

The cheers and applause stopped, and the singer Zhou Xuan stretched out his arm and said excitedly: "Next, I solemnly introduce Liu Xue'an, a high-quality student of shanghai music colleges, and the composer of "He Rijun's Return". ”

Someone in the accompanying band blew the trumpet, and the audience stood up and looked around, when someone said" and "he's gone."

The audience asked Zhou Xuan to "sing again", so the moving song sounded again...

On February 14, 1938, "Three Stars with the Moon" was released at the Shanghai Sunbeam Theater, and Zhou Xuan's "He Rijun Again" was a blockbuster and deeply touched the heartstrings of the audience - they often parted with relatives and friends for various reasons, and "He Rijun Came Again" expressed their desire to reunite with relatives and friends.

In 1939, Cai Chusheng choreographed and directed the Hong Kong anti-war film "Lonely Island Paradise", and selected "He Rijun's Return" as an interlude, which was sung by the famous actor Li Lili in the movie.

Liu Xue'an became famous in the world!

De Gaulle Deguo, the French agent of Shanghai EMI, came to Liu Xue'an, signed a contract with him, and purchased the copyright of "He Rijun's Return"; Ren Guang, director of the record department of EMI, invited Zhou Xuan to sing "He Rijun Again" and produced a record for distribution.

Liu Xue'an's value rose sharply, and the draft flew like a snowflake: 100 yuan for a song. Before his work was written, publishers rushed to prepay royalties.

"He Rijun Again" also attracted Japanese singer Shuko Yamaguchi, also known as Li Xianglan, who sang in both Chinese and Japanese languages. In 1941, she produced the Chinese and Japanese "He Rijun Again" record, which was very popular in Japan; in the same year, Li Xianglan starred in the films "The Song of Bailan" and "Symphony of Tribulation", and she sang "He Rijun's Return" in the love scenes of both films. In this way, "When the Sun Comes Again" spread to the Japanese military camp, the soldiers loved it very much, and everyone sang it...

Zhou Xiaoyan sang the "Ballad of the Great Wall" record

When it comes to Liu Xue'an, people often think that he is the voice of creation, wrong! In fact, Liu Xue'an created a large number of patriotic songs. Liu Xue'an composed more than 500 songs in his lifetime, in addition to the warm songs of "He Rijun Again", more exciting melodies, such as the anti-Japanese songs "Songhua On the River", "Leaving Home" and "Going to the Front Line", including the "Exile Trilogy", "Departure" and "Expedition to Other Mothers". He also composed the widely circulated "Ballad of the Great Wall", which was sung by Zhou Xiaoyan, an alumnus of Liu Xue'an and a soprano singer, and was made and released by EMI, making this song a household name and sung by thousands of people.

"In order to arouse the enthusiasm of the people, I go to the streets and sing in the hospitals, everywhere." Zhou Xiaoyan recalled.

More than 40 years after the birth of "The Ballad of the Great Wall", composer Liu Xue'an also entered the late years of his life, in the early 1980s, Hong Kong singer Zhang Mingmin sang "Ballad of the Great Wall" in Beijing: "The Great Wall is long, outside the Great Wall is the hometown, sorghum fat, soybean incense ..." At the end of the song, the audience responded with stormy applause.

Liu Xue'an's works travel through time and space and are still sung at home and abroad.
