Under the guidance of my friends, I checked the Kangxi Dictionary, the Shuowen Jiezi, and the Modern Chinese Dictionary.
The Kangxi Dictionary is very simple, listening means listening.

Duan Yujie's annotations were completed during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, which is relatively close to modern times. I looked it up (probably not searching well, I'm a polytechnic after all) and didn't see a change in the meaning of the words. It seems that historically, this has always been the meaning.
Explanation of the Modern Chinese Dictionary:
Listen: Listen.
The words of the group are: listen attentively, listen to the teachings.
The Modern Chinese Dictionary does not say that listening is listening sincerely and earnestly.
Let's give a few examples.
Hearing the Voice: Hearing the voice makes sense of the matter. This must be listened to carefully before it can be analyzed.
Han Yu's "Reply to Zhang Che" begins:
Insults do not know the retribution, I sing its ears.
The first verse begins with the face, and the second sentence is fractal.
In "Dream of the Red Chamber", Baoyu sleepwalks in too illusory realm, inside: Baoyu takes over, looks at his text, and listens to his songs.
If you want to emphasize respect, Baoyu can't be turning over paper and listening to songs, and this kind of behavior is not pious.
Therefore, according to my examination evidence, Wei Dongyi is not wrong, and it is completely okay to listen. I don't know if there are any experts in writing to discuss it.
The discussion I listened to was actually possible, because I felt that the language would not be corrected and the level would be lower and lower. The language level of society as a whole will also decline. However, in this matter, many people discussed deviating from the original intention, or regarded this matter as a big deal, as if Wei Dongyi had made a big mistake, or thought that Wei Shen's mathematical level was very high and could not be provoked. I myself don't think either attitude is desirable.
Also, one more word. A friend argued with me today about a topic. I think that in academia, there is no need for a lot of honorifics, modesty, even young people, when discussing with old experts, are equal, and it is best to discuss in an equal way. This helps to have a good academic environment.
