——Interview with Mr. Ma Bing, Professor of the College of Letters of Shandong University

Ma Bing is a professor, vice dean and doctoral supervisor of the College of Literature of Shandong University. In 2004, he graduated from the School of Literature and Journalism and Communication of Shandong University, majoring in modern and contemporary literature, and received a doctorate in literature from mr. Kong Fanjin, a literary historian. He once worked in Shandong Literature and Art Publishing House, successively serving as an editor and director of the editorial office. In July 2007, he was transferred to the Institute of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature of the College of Literature of Shandong University, mainly engaged in the research of the historical view of Chinese literature in the 20th century and the hot spots of literature in the new century. He has published "Journey to "Different"", "Story, Restart", "Kitamura Theory", etc., and has presided over a number of national, provincial and ministerial projects. He has won the second prize of Shandong Humanities and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievements, Liu Xun Literary and Art Criticism Award, Taishan Literature and Art Award, Wan Songpu Literature Award, Shanghai Literature Award, etc., and is also the fourth batch of visiting researchers of the China Modern Literature Museum, the chairman of the Shandong Young Writers Association, the chairman of the Jinan Literary and Art Critics Association, and the contracted critic of the Shandong Writers Association.

Host: As a scholar and a literary critic, how do you view the cultural positioning of Jinan as a city?

Ma Bing: The beauty of Jinan is inseparable from the spiritual rhyme of literature, whether it is Er'an, or Liu Hu, Lao She, Shen Congwen, Zhang Dachun, etc. in modern times, they have all used words to record the unique charm of Jinan, and one of the cultural positioning of Jinan is that it is a literary city.

Host: You have a lot of unique research and thinking on contemporary literature, can you talk about what aspects of literature have on a person?

Ma Bing: I would like to use a sentence from the novelist Pamuk as an answer, that is, one of the ways to understand this secular era more deeply is to read great works of literature. Literature does not know that it is only an immersion of beauty, it will also help us to build judgment and improve our thinking, and in the post-truth era, we especially need literature.

Host: Could you please talk about how to educate primary and secondary school students in literature?

Ma Bing: Classic reading is still the first, and the selection of classics is also very critical, I don't recommend that children read young books because they are primary and secondary schools, not to mention that great children's literature is actually suitable for all ages. In addition, the orientation of reading in the whole society is also very critical, less successful learning, less teaching aids, less chicken soup, more classical reading advocacy, is still very important for cultivating a good reading concept of primary and secondary school students.

Host: What should primary and secondary school students pay attention to in their language study and composition?

Ma Bing: First, the foundation should be solid, such as the study of literature and language, commonly used real words, virtual words, etc. to be mastered, and mastering these knowledge requires the combination of inside and outside the classroom, many classical Mongolian reading materials may wish to read and look over, "History", "Ancient Literature Guanzhi" and so on If you can read through it in middle school, it is very helpful for your own improvement. The second is to open the field of reading and make good reading notes. Reading notes are not to provide famous aphorisms for future compositions, but to accumulate experience. Third, the writing essay should be combined with personal experience to tell the truth, do not say clichés, Hu Shi's "literary improvement discussion" is still valid today, such as the practice of abusive clichés, which is a good reminder.

Host: Some people have proposed that we should join the course of Er'an poetry popularization education in the classroom of college students in Jinan. In your usual teaching, did you touch on the topic of Er'an? The result?

Ma Bing: Since Jinan is a city of literature, of course, we should do a good job in popularizing literature, Er'an is the love of history for Jinan, and to this day we still have honor and honor when we mention it, so I am very much in favor of Er'an's words entering the classroom. The College of Literature of Shandong University, where I work, has recently devoted itself to the construction of original courses, one of which is Jiaxuanzi, which students like very much.

Host: China is an ancient country of poetry, Jinan is also known as the city of poetry, can you talk about your views in combination with the current situation of youth poetry education and the popularity of social poetry?

Ma Bing: I believe that poetry is in the folk, but at present, ordinary readers are very isolated from poetry, many poetry public opinion events actually stem from the strangeness of the development of modern Chinese poetry, the current young people still have to start from reading, understand the transformation of Chinese poetry from classical to modern, establish their own poetry concepts in reading, and cultivate their own poetry.

Host: Among the many well-known landscapes in Jinan, which one is your favorite? Why?

Ma Bing: This is a bit difficult to answer, jinan has many famous springs, it is too difficult to choose. But friends from other places come, I am willing to take them to the Black Tiger Spring, let them taste the spring water, friends from other places have seen the gushing of the Black Tiger Spring to know that the Jinan Spring is not vain, and there are many homes around the Black Tiger Spring, there are fireworks, and the spring water in Jinan and our people are inseparable from each other.

Host: In terms of cultural branding and promotion, what concepts do you think need to be updated in jinan? What other gaps need to be filled? What else needs to be improved? What more needs to be done?

Ma Bing: One is the protection of Jinan's old town, including the protection of old buildings, etc. taking some detours, the modernity of modern cities is not the appearance but the renewal of concepts, not how many high-rise buildings there are but whether they are convenient or livable, whether they are smart or civilized, at this point, there are many cultural resources that Jinan can excavate. Again, Jinan's introduction to Er'an is not commensurate with the position of the two poets in literary history, and more efforts must be made.
