The first generation of immigrant housing in Shizi Garden, Hanxi Village

Fuliang County is to accept the construction of the Xin'an River Reservoir in the 1960s and move out a large number of Chun'an immigrants. A total of 16,374 township migrants from the reservoir area of Chun'an County have moved to Fuliang County. Hanxi Village Shiziyuan is a group of pure immigrant villages that migrated from Weiping Town, Chun'an County, Zhejiang Province, to Hanxi Village in Zangwan Township, and after decades of hard work, they finally took root. "Good As Water" by Maria Verkara (Finland)

Introduction: The starting point of the creation: each household has a water tower and a water storage tank. Water is the most important thing for survival, the water tower is the basic element of the village, but also a recurring element, the water tower is everywhere in the village and becomes the symbol of the village.

In order not to add additional objects and destroy the overall impression of the village, the artist saw the water tower as a sculptural component creation. The water tower reminds the importance of water resources in the village and the hardships of fetching and storing water, upgrading the water tower and plating it with eye-catching colors.

Each family is different, and the artist, as a passerby, hopes to give each family the right to choose in his own artistic creation, so that each family can choose their favorite style in the artist's design, so that each water tower can present the personality of the residents and become a special visual object in the village.

About the Artist: Maria Verkara was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1954. Maaria's parents were both artists, and she grew up in an environment far from human habitation and surrounded by nature. At an early age, she designed her own wallpaper and copied the things around her, and when she grew up, she went to Helsinki to study ceramics and went to France for further study.

In mid-1990, Maaria rose to prominence in the art world for the first time with her participation in the Venus Biennale and the Istanbul Biennale. Her work is poetic and often searches for the "potential" hidden in various places, and spuns poetic chapters through her works. Because of this, many people around the world, except in Europe, are fascinated by her work, and she has also been invited to participate in different art festivals and other activities, through her special vision to create works that belong only to the local area.

This exhibition takes the results of the spring exhibition as the starting point and takes the Jingdezhen International Ceramics Expo as an opportunity to carry out new upgrades of existing works, new creation of night projects, and new experiences of linkage scenes. On the basis of the original 22 works of art, five new works, including landscape art, the Huayuan Residency Plan, and the "Beautiful Book" exhibition, were added. Q: What is the difference between this year's Autumn and Spring Exhibitions?

A: The spring exhibition mainly focuses on the display of artistic creation. In the autumn, a diverse art residency program for young people was added, which was originally established in 2016 at the Huayuan Chinese Art Base founded by my wife in Echigo and has so far done more than a dozen exhibitions in Japan. This time, we will bring this project to the floating beam for the first time, hoping to provide a practical platform for more young artists to create in the countryside.

Another focus is to bring "art in fuliang" to more cities, this section is called "to the countryside, to the city", we in different forms in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Sanya, Beijing and other places, in the national and important professional platforms and spaces, display and introduce "art in the floating beam", look forward to more people, pay attention to the countryside, into the countryside, build a village.

At the same time, we still attach importance to co-creation and symbiosis. During the autumn exhibition period, there are more than ten cross-border cooperation activities in various fields such as education, art, performance, and experience, which are very exciting. Q: What is the feedback and effect of the harvest at the Spring Fair?

A: The spring exhibition is generally successful, not only in the field of art, but also in all walks of life have received widespread attention and praise. The Fuliang County Party Committee and County Government gave a high degree of affirmation.

The 32-day exhibition reached 30,000 visitors, of which more than 80% came from outside Jingdezhen City. More than 100 domestic and overseas media reported online and offline from all angles, more than 30 million new media exposures, more than 2.5 million popular Weibo topics, and offline advertising reached a total of more than 100 million people.

Of course, the numbers do not represent the whole story, but they can reflect the appeal and influence of the Land Art Festival itself, and reflect the young generation's yearning for beautiful countryside.

"Channels - The Shape" Artist: Liu Jianhua

Introduction: Raindrops of different sizes are combined with water channels, and the water canals that once relied on irrigation are now abandoned, associating them with breeding and nurturing. Q: What are the main aspects to consider when introducing high-quality industries and resources?

A: In different places, the solution to the problem will be different. But in general, we will consider from three aspects, the first is to match the rural environment, the second is to meet the basic needs of foreign tourists, and the third is to meet the logic of local industrial development. For example, cooperation with coffee brands and catering brands can be flashed, and long-term villages will be added in the future, and even physical stores will be opened. In addition, homestays, farms, study tours, product workshops, etc., are also in the scope of our thinking. As the "rural commissioner" of Hanxi Village in Fuliang County, I think this is not only a title, but more importantly, macro planning, clear positioning, appropriate introduction and long-term assistance are needed to implement this similar rural manager's behavior. Resources and industries that cannot be coordinated and integrated into this ecosystem are not considered. In the future, it is our fundamental goal to promote and cultivate the development of local independent commerce and let the countryside grow on its own.

"Dust in Evolution - Memories of Shi Ziyuan Village" By Xiang Yang

Description: The artist is stationed in two abandoned rooms, creating the interior walls of the old house. Presenting his well-known series Dust in Evolution. Xiangyang collected images of Jingdezhen and Shiziyuan Village, selected the figures, and carved their silhouettes on the walls of the house. Debris and patent leather scattered during the carving of the walls are collected in transparent pouches beneath each figure. The portrait on the wall and the debris in the small bag thus become the visual self-description of the image itself.

The abandoned rooms, like a local art museum, describe the history and story of the town and village itself. Residents of the village can see the history of Jingdezhen ceramics making, village migration and construction in the images on the walls, and see figures similar to themselves or their ancestors. Q: "Art in Fuliang" uses the concept of "art creation" to create a rural cultural brand, what are the key points and difficulties in building a brand for the Fuliang area?

A: "Art Creation" originates from the concept and methodology of the Land Art Festival founded by Mr. Kitagawa Fulang, and combines a large number of local practices and innovations to cope with the actual needs of rural China. The resulting work, such as "art in the floating beam", requires the accumulation of talents, especially the participation of young people; The need for pragmatic support from social institutions and resources; The need for full trust and acceptance by locals and the government is a key issue we have to face, which is also an important guarantee for the "art creation" to be carried out, and we can truly continue to live. The "Beautiful Book THEBOOKAND" public art project initiated by the creative organization UNITU uses the book as a transmission medium and uses curatorial thinking to initiate a content co-creation with the participation of the whole people - to solicit "good sharers" to recommend a book that represents the good in their minds, to send this beautiful story of people and books to special people in the form of letters, to bring together the stories of people and books, to connect people's emotions, and to let books blossom in their hearts.

The "Beautiful Book THEBOOKAND" public art project came to the Art in Fuliang Autumn Exhibition with the theme of "Art Perch Floating Beam For A ResT". On the tea field of the floating beam, the pure space art installation provides a rest space for the audience who stroll here in the background of the nature of heaven and earth, so that everyone can open their hearts here, savor the art festival, communicate with each other, and feel the resonance.

At the exhibition site of "The Book AND", flower plant artist Sheep's Head was invited to bring a new flower plant art installation "Habitat Nest" inspired by the mountains. This work is like a nesting bird, picking up a branch, grabbing a flower, turning ordinary "waste" into a unique decoration, and creating a habitat. It is also like a curly tea leaf in which life grows freely. It is hoped that through this primitive sense of ritual, we can re-experience the influence of nature and human life on each other.

Q: Is the emphasis on "deep engagement" or "immersive experience" a trend in recent years? What is the reason behind it?

A: People's increasing demand in life consumption is forcing market suppliers to constantly update and refine the depth of contact and experience perception of the content and services provided. Deep contact and immersion require interdisciplinary research and continuous expansion of experimentation, whether it is the immersion of sound and light in the city or the immersion of nature in the countryside, which is a pragmatic action on this path. Compared with the spatial limitations of the city, the countryside is broader and more imaginative, and this trend of perceptual ascension as the way, the life of the field has a natural connection with the origin of man. As for the reasons behind it, I think it is not complicated, the flooded, fast-processing, rough table content, has been unable to control these people who have new high requirements for aesthetics, quality, connotation, and distance.

"Lamp of the Earth" Artist: Ma Yansong

Description: The tea field surrounds the mountain, and there are several large trees on the hillside, which is the commanding height near the whole village. Usually no one goes up, and the best view becomes a place that has nothing to do with people.

MAD's installation adds to the existing field composition, a white "apex". The semi-transparent film is light and ethereal, like the white mist surrounding the trees, or the clouds falling from the sky, converging on the line of sight, making people feel the urge to cross the tea field and reach the top. At night the device becomes a lamp. The trees are full of shadows, forming a dynamic silhouette, like a lighthouse on land, and the change of light and shadow dots the night of the village.

The work attempts to reconnect the beautiful scenery with human behavior through simple ways and language between art and architecture, and to reactivate the relationship between man and nature in the vast countryside.

Q: Is the festival a short-lived carnival? Or is it an effective way to solve problems on an ongoing basis?

A: The "Regional Art Festival" founded by Kitagawa Fulang has a clear definition and mature operation method. In China, there are many rural art activities carried out in the name of the "Land Art Festival", and I believe that everyone's original intention is good, but the concepts followed, the goals set, and the action methods taken are very different from what we insist on, and the results obtained are naturally different. There are many active, focused on short-term effects, such as what you call "carnival". There is a lack of sufficient persistence and effective approaches to sustained problem solving. "Art Creation" is based on art, but the focus is on Creation. We are not just doing art, but what is outside and after art is the guidance of thought and action. The "art creation" system that we apply, which originates from the concept and method of "Land Art Festival", is always problem-oriented through localized artistic creation and a large number of matching cultural activities, which is an effective method of sustainable development. The "birth" of the countryside, we are willing to invest time, energy and feelings to create it ourselves.

"Tea Field Watchman" Artist: Portrait Library Portrait Library is a photography art brand co-founded by Lin Yankai, Xia Xiaonuan and Wang Shuai

Introduction: Photographs are the carriers of time and space. This time, the artist will extend the portrait photography exhibition to a larger field – nature. If you think of the whole tea field of Fuliang as an art museum, you can feel the surging wind here, the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, the sky cloud cirrus clouds... The fragrance of tea leaves, the chirping of birds, and the smell of earth after the rain try to stimulate the viewer's five senses to experience. The path in the tea field is the moving line of this film festival, hundreds of translucent portrait photos are arranged in a staggered arrangement, half floating on the tea field, people can freely shuttle through it, and even reach out to look through each photo and read everyone.

Everyone is a book that is read and read again. When efficiency becomes the first priority, where will our lives go? In the corner of the tea field, there is a stop called "Librarian", surrounded by nature and art, temporarily forgetting time, stopping and looking up: the photos in the distance are sometimes silent, sometimes fluttering, between heaven and earth, everyone is like a small "word", and the hand of the earth is flipping through this "huge book" composed of "people".

This year (2021) marks the 70th anniversary of Salinger's book The Catcher in the Rye, and the Portrait Library hopes to use this exhibition to pay tribute to this "Book of Life" that has comforted the hearts of countless people, and also symbolizes the watchful eye for "the meaning of photography". Seventy years later, when we stand in nature, we wonder if there is still a "wheat field" in our hearts that can be watched?

Artist Introduction: Portrait Library is a photographic art label co-founded by Lin Yankai, Xia Xiaonuan and Wang Shuai, abandoning the front and dangerous sitting of a thousand people, pursuing the authenticity of embracing simplicity and unity, and exploring natural and tense images. Q: How can art be revitalized in regional cultures? The problem facing the festival is not only to attract traffic, but also to have an intrinsic driving force. Where does this drive land in your project?

A: All our creations in Hanxi Village have basically achieved three effects among the villagers: "proud praise, spontaneous understanding, and conscious maintenance". Such a change is gratifying, and it is also the fundamental intention of the land art festival, which is a regional art. The change of locals is brewing this driving force, they come from the improvement of pride and self-confidence, we help them introduce resources, improve methods, let them get closer to each other with the city, and add talents, resources and experience factors while regaining rural values, so that locals have more vision, greater ideals, better skills, and release the values of their hometown, culture and so on.

Bo Ya drums and piano, aiming to climb the mountain. Zhong Zi said: 'Zenya! E'e-Ferno-Tarzan!' Aiming at the flowing water, Zhong Zi said: 'Zenya! It's like a river!' What Bo Ya reads, the bell will be obtained. ”

For the "Art in the Floating Beam" project customized works, Ge Shitan immediately thought of "tea". Like many people, tea is the most ordinary and indispensable thing in The Life of Goshitan, and what the art of Goshitan praises is ordinary life itself. Ge Shitan's "tea" is a frank meeting with Hanxi Village.

Introduction to the works of "Five Hundred Pens @ Floating Beam": In 2016, starting with the public art project "Liberation of the Monkey King" implemented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Ye Jian'an began to use the language of rice paper ink collage to create a new series of works full of social participation and visual vitality - "Five Hundred Pens", through the integration of paper ink and paper collage, exploring the new composition of "two-dimensional" and "three-dimensional" spaces in painting, while extending the works to the sociological level and exploring the relationship between individuals and groups.

"Five Hundred Pens @ Floating Beam" invites local residents to participate in a kind of "stroke game": people can freely choose the size and type of brush, the dry and wet shades of color and ink are also arbitrary, do not draw images or write words, only leave a trace on rice paper as they wish. Wu Jian'an then cut and carved a large number of strokes he had collected, put them together, and gathered them onto a brand new blank rice paper to form a work of "Five Hundred Strokes" that was full of serendipity and carefully managed in a form. In the logic of the relationship between handwriting and people, random pen portraits of people's subconscious projected on rice paper, they vary from person to person, carrying a large amount of life information of the author. Huayuan Residency Program Fuliang
