Siping Martyrs Cemetery

Siping Martyrs Cemetery is located in the northern suburbs of Siping City, located at the entrance of Siping of Harbin Highway, covering an area of nearly 200,000 square meters. During the Liberation War, our army and the Kuomintang army fought four major wars in Siping from March 1946 to March 1948. In the four operations that lasted for two years, the enemy and us dispatched a total of 400,000 troops, all of which were invested in elite troops, and the fierceness and cruelty of the operation were rare in the battlefield of liberating the northeast.

According to incomplete statistics, our army suffered a total of more than 40,000 casualties in the Siping Campaign, of which nearly 20,000 were sacrificed, accounting for about two-fifths of the total number of martyrs who died in the Northeast Liberation War. Among the victims, there were 1 division commander, 72 regimental-level cadres, more than 180 battalion-level cadres, and more than 180 victims were ordinary young soldiers.

Four Wars and Four Peaces Martyrs Monument

In order to commemorate the martyrs who died in the liberation and construction of Siping, the Siping Municipal Government established the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery here in 1951 and the Martyrs' Cemetery in 1974. Since its inception, it has been listed as a national key martyrs' memorial building protection unit; a national 100 patriotic education demonstration base and one of the 100 red tourism classic scenic spots in the country.

The Management Office of siping City Martyrs' Cemetery is responsible for the construction, maintenance and environmental beautification of martyrs' memorial buildings and supporting facilities; the preservation of martyrs' ashes, the display of martyrs' relics and revolutionary historical materials, the collection and numbering of revolutionary historical materials, the establishment and preservation of martyrs' cultural relics archives; providing a platform for revolutionary martyrs' commemoration activities and giving play to the role of patriotic education bases; and cooperating with the competent departments to do a good job in receiving the survivors of martyrs who come to pay homage to them.

Since 1987, the Siping Martyrs Cemetery has been re-planned, and the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs, the Siping Municipal Government and all sectors of society have raised funds from various sources to renovate and build the cemetery for many years. At present, the park mainly has commemorative facilities such as the Monument to the Martyrs of the Four Wars and four peaces, the Tomb of the Unknown Martyrs, the Corridor of the Martyrs' List, the Tomb of the Single Martyrs and the Red Army Cemetery.
