Blatantly tampering with the central documents, is Ye Yonglie really seeking truth from facts?

author:Torch of thought

Editor's note: The famous "scholar of literature and history" Ye Yonglie is gone, there are many commemorative voices on the Internet, and most of the commemorators care about not Ye Yonglie's experience of writing popular science articles as a "great god of knowledge" in the first thirty years of New China, but as a "historian" to write the history of the first thirty years, especially the history of several sensitive periods.

In 2011, Ye Yonglie published an article entitled "How Can History Become 'Tricks'" in "Helping Each Other in the Same Boat", in which he believed that history is not a little girl dressed up, and when the smoke of gunfire gradually dissipates, the true face of history will slowly appear. Although this is a very beautiful thing to say, Mr. Ye himself does not seem to be doing very well.

In Ye Yonglie's "A Pen of the CPC Central Committee: Hu Qiaomu" (published by Guangxi People's Publishing House), "Section 60: Lushan Storm (5)", there is this passage:

From late March to late May 1961, Hu Qiaomu went to the countryside of Hunan to investigate and study according to Chairman Mao's instructions.

(According to Hu Qiaomu's daughter Hu Muying' recollection) It just so happened that Chairman Mao also came to Hunan to inspect. When my father learned of this news, he immediately wrote a long letter to Chairman Mao. In addition to talking about the investigation and solution of the canteen problem in Shaoshan Commune, he also wrote about the situation of starving people in Xiangxiang. ...... He had invited Comrade Mao Huachu, who had returned to Changsha for a meeting, to bring this letter to Chairman Mao. The day after receiving the letter, Chairman Mao gave instructions to Comrade Zhang Pinghua, secretary of Hunan Province, asking him to read the letter and the four appendices 'printed and distributed to all comrades at the meeting of cadres at the third level to discuss them'. ......”

Ye Yonglie said, "The long letter written by Hu Qiaomu to Mao Zedong mentioned in the memoir article of (Hu Qiaomu's) daughter Hu Muying was a letter written by Hu Qiaomu on April 14, 1961. In his letter, Hu Qiaomu truthfully reflected to Mao Zedong the serious situation of starving people to death in the rural areas of Hunan:

[Yesterday, I went to the Xiangxiang County CPC Committee with Comrade Wang Li, Comrade Mao Huachu, Comrade He Bingxian of the Provincial Department of Agriculture, and others, and we had heard about the situation of dead people in the Eastern Suburbs Commune and the present Longdong Commune near Shaoshan (from October 1958 to March 1961, three brigades killed 707 people, accounting for 13.5 percent of the existing population), and planned to go to this place to investigate, but due to the inconvenience of the road, we temporarily went to the Nanxiang Brigade, the Seven Star Brigade, the Underwater Brigade, and the Mason Brigade of the former Eastern Suburbs Commune to have a look at several production teams of the nanxiang brigade, the seven-star brigade, the underwater brigade, and the mason brigade of the former Eastern Suburbs Commune. It was also found that the situation of these brigades was also serious. According to the county party committee, about 30,000 people starved to death in the county for three years, about 20,000 people died last year, and at the end of last year, the most serious, the number of patients in the county reached 70,000 at the end of last year, and it has now been reduced to more than 10,000, but where we went, some production teams' illness has not stopped ... ]

Notice the most crucial sentence in Hu Qiaomu's letter quoted by Ye Yonglie here: "About 30,000 people starved to death in the county in three years, and about 20,000 people last year."

After investigation, hu Qiaomu's letter and Chairman Mao's subsequent instructions can be found in the "Selected Important Documents Since the Founding of the People's Republic of China, Volume 14", "Several Important Documents Forwarded by the CPC Central Committee to Mao Zedong's Instructions -- Hu Qiaomu's Investigation Materials on the Problem of the Commune Canteen (April 26, 1961)".

In this central document, the relevant original text of Hu Qiaomu's letter to Chairman Mao is as follows:

[Yesterday, I went to the Xiangxiang County CPC Committee with Comrade Wang Li, Comrade Mao Huachu, Comrade He Bingxian of the Provincial Agricultural Office, and others. We had heard that the current Longdong Commune, a former eastern suburban commune near Shaoshan, had a serious situation of dead people (from October 1958 to March 1961, three brigades had 707 deaths, accounting for 13.5 percent of the existing population), and planned to go there to investigate. As a result, because of the inconvenience of the road, several production teams of the Nanxiang Brigade, the Seven Star Brigade, the Underwater Brigade, and the Masons Brigade of the former Eastern Suburbs Commune, which are now Chen Geng Commune, took a look at them and found that the situation of these brigades was also very serious, and the death rate of the two brigades of Nanxiang and the stonemasons in the past three years had reached about 20 percent. According to the county party committee, about 30,000 people died in the county in three years, and about 20,000 people died last year, which was the most serious at the end of last year. The number of patients in the county reached 70,000 at the end of last year, and it has now dropped to more than 10,000, but where we went, some of the production teams have not stopped. ......】

Blatantly tampering with the central documents, is Ye Yonglie really seeking truth from facts?

It can be seen that the most crucial sentence in Hu Qiaomu's letter is: "About 30,000 people died in the county in three years, and about 20,000 people died last year."

In Ye Yonglie's book, the most crucial sentence became: "About 30,000 people starved to death in the county in three years, and about 20,000 people last year."

That is to say: there is an extra word "hungry" in the middle of the first half of the sentence, so the word "dead man" is transformed into a "hungry person"! The word "death" is missing in the middle of the second half of the sentence, so "20,000 dead people" is connected to the above, and it becomes "20,000 people starved to death"!

This is Ye Yonglie's trick, this is Ye Yonglie's ghost trick, and this is the ironclad evidence that Ye Yonglie has openly tampered with the central documents!

In order to create the big lie of "starving to death by thirty million", in order to slander and attack Chairman Mao Zedong, the rightists really made it out by any despicable means!

In fact, what straw Ye Yonglie and his ilk wanted to get from Hu Qiaomu's letter was also in vain. Hu Qiaomu's so-called "serious situation of dead people" and "the mortality rate is about twenty percent" are all obtained by "hearing" and "saying" within a day of his own speech, and they are not obtained by personal investigation, and they are not enough to rely on at all. His "investigation" also completely violated the most basic principle of investigation and research advocated by Chairman Mao!
