The long-standing Ryukyu axoruptera

Ryukyu Acacia is mainly distributed in Taiwan, China, and abroad is distributed in amami Oshima, Tokunoshima, Okinawa and Tokashiki island in the Ryukyu Islands of Japan. They live in forests and are more concentrated in areas near cultivated areas.

The Ryukyu axolotchi is about 16 cm long, the head is flattened and broad; the central ridge of the back is prominent, and there are bony ridges on the sides of the head and back; the body color is brownish-black, only the area around the cloaca, hands and feet, ventral surface, toes and the lower edge of the tail are orange.

They hide during the day under fallen leaves, wood or stones. It goes out hunting at night or on rainy days, usually feeding on small invertebrates, insects and their larvae. During the non-breeding period , adult Ryukyu anchovies prefer to live on land. It is spawning from late January to late June each year, and they usually lay their eggs dry in deciduous or humus soil on the slopes of still water shores.
