Chengdu, 17 Jan (Xinhua) -- On the 17th, this reporter learned from the Ecological and Environmental Bureau of Seda County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, that local government workers accidentally photographed an animal that was foraging in the Sequ River Basin near Xuergou Village in Onda Town, which was identified as a national second-level protected animal with small claws and otters.

At about 13:00 on the 16th, Wang Jianhai, a cadre of the Political and Legal Committee of Seda County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, was passing near Xuergou Village in Onda Town, when he found and photographed the picture of the small clawed otter, a second-class protected animal of the state, preying on the ice. "The little clawed otter is lying on a piece of ice, foraging for a fish, sometimes biting hard, sometimes playing on the river." Wang Jianhai said that the small claw otter ate the fish in a few minutes, and then jumped into the glacier to play.

"The small-clawed otter is at the top of the freshwater food chain, and its survival requires not only a large number of fish, but also a deep water area in the river, and enough hidden shelter on the riverbank, which requires high water quality and riverbank environment." Shuai Jun, director of the Ecological and Environmental Bureau of Seda County, said that the image of the small claw otter fishing and eating near the xuergou village in Onda Town, at an altitude of more than 3800 meters, fully shows that the small claw otter has adapted to survive in the Sequ River Basin, and also shows that the Sequ River ecosystem in the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at an altitude of more than 3800 meters is in a healthy and complete state.

In recent years, Seda County has continuously increased its ecological protection efforts, the habitat environment of wild animals has been continuously improved, and the number of species and populations of various wild animals in the region has shown a restorative growth trend, and rare wild animals such as snow leopards, black-necked cranes, lynx, red mallard ducks, white-rumped deer, Tibetan hartebeest, and blue horse chickens have been found in its territory.
