Australia's latest population flow data was released, and Queensland instantly felt that the housing pressure was getting bigger and bigger!
01, Melbourne and Sydney were abandoned, and everyone moved to Queensland
The latest data shows Sydneysiders leaving the city in droves, while more and more residents across Australia are flocking to Brisbane.
However, according to the severity of the current housing crisis in Queensland, it seems that the Queensland government can hear the silent cry:
Don't come here! I can't live, I really can't live...
According to the latest interstate migration data from the Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS), about 30% of people who moved within Australia last year moved to Queensland.
Of the 608929 who moved last year, nearly 183,000 chose to live in Queensland. Of those, 13,452 moved to Brisbane from other parts of Australia. In stark contrast to Queensland, Sydney lost 36,000 people to regional and other areas.
Melbourne is also one of the main cities where Australian residents have "fled", with a total of 5,000 people moving to other areas, mainly to regional Victoria, accounting for nearly half of the total number of people lost.
The report also shows that a large proportion of people have moved to remote areas of Brisbane or Queensland after leaving Sydney and Melbourne.
The Gold Coast in Queensland has long been a popular "relocation" for residents from other parts of Australia.
Aude Bernard, a demographer at the University of Queensland, points out that Sydneysiders have been migrating north since the 70s of the 20th century.
Especially since the new crown epidemic, the number of interstate migrants in Australia has increased, in addition to the change of living environment and living habits, housing prices are also a major factor.
"Queensland's attractiveness has increased, partly because lifestyle considerations have become more important since the pandemic, but there are also house price differences, although the gap between Sydney and Brisbane is narrowing."
Liz Ritchie, chief executive of the Institute of Remote Areas in Australia, also noted that Australian society is changing.
"With the onslaught of high housing prices and cost-of-living pressures, many people are realizing that remote areas can provide the lifestyle they want and the jobs they want without the problems of big cities, such as long commutes, tolls and transportation issues."
02. Housing pressure is still soaring, and the most stressed areas in Australia
However, the influx of large numbers of interstate migrants also means that the already very tough housing market in Queensland will become more competitive.
The latest reports show that Queensland is now the most stressed housing in Queensland compared to any other state in Australia!

A new report from the Queensland Council for Social Services (QCOSS) shows that house prices and rental rates in Queensland have outpaced the rest of Australia since the start of the pandemic in 2019.
The study was led by Professor Hal Pawson at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
The report, titled Breaking Ground, found that house prices in Brisbane have risen by 65 per cent, almost double the average for Australia's capital city (34%)!
At the same time, rents have risen by a massive 45%!
Since 2020, the percentage of new rents that low-income households across the state can afford has dropped from 23% to 10%. In March of this year alone, a minimum wage earner could afford less than 1 per cent of the total rent.
The report found that residents relying on homeless services have increased by 34% over the past five years.
The report also highlights that more and more families are seeking these services, with some families being forced to live in tents, cars or motel rooms due to a lack of affordable rental housing.
Professor Pawson noted that the current housing situation has hit renters and first-time buyers hard.
"Renters and recent first-time buyers will be at the most precarious position in current market conditions. Unfortunately, for some, this situation can mean being forced homeless. ”
In response, QCOSS reiterates its call for state and federal governments to do more to address the issue.
The organisation called for bipartisan commitment to long-term, evidence-based plans, including increasing the supply of affordable housing and social housing in Queensland.
They also want to cap rent increases and close loopholes in the law to prevent unfair evictions.
Domain's data highlights that rents for rental advertisers in capital cities have risen by 10.5% last year. As of March 2024, the average price of renting an apartment in Australia's capital city is $630 per week.
In the capital city, the average rent for an apartment is $620 per week. In some remote areas of Australia, the average rent for a house is $540 per week.
With the influx of migrants, housing prices in Queensland have also started to rise, and the pressure on housing has increased. If this trend continues, the immigrants who come here in the future will probably end up leaving...
