In Friday's PR qualifying preliminaries, despite the difficult weather conditions, the two drivers were able to finish in the top two and go straight to Q2 qualifying.
The MotoGP class is held at the end of the week (October 19) with qualifying and sprint races. In the morning Q2 qualifying, Marcus set the second-fastest personal best lap of 1 minute 57.89 seconds, and the sprint race and Sunday's main race will start from the first row, his first return to the grid since Aragon, Spain; Quince Jr. clocked 1:29.009 to sit eighth on the grid.
The sprint race, which starts at 3 p.m. local time, is 13 laps and is equivalent to 57.8 kilometers. After the start of the grid, Marquins had a poor start and dropped several positions in an instant, and when he came back from lap 1, he dropped to seventh, while Mulculs Jr. dropped slightly to ninth. In the ensuing race time, Marquins staged another back-up comeback, and by lap 5 he was in third place, less than two seconds from the lead.
By lap 8, by lap 8, Marquins had moved up to second place, but the lead car was already gone. In the end, he managed to finish second in the sprint race – his sixth sprint finish in the 2024 season. Younger brother Mulkins Jr. slipped on lap 6 and was forced to withdraw from the race.
After the weekend, Marquins said, "I did well in my weakness this year, which means I've always had a mediocre qualifying performance this year, finishing second in qualifying, and then I made a mistake in my strong point so far, which is the start. Although I was able to recover the lost position well in the end, the mistakes at the start were still there, and it was (only) a bittersweet day for a perfectionist like me, but the good news is that we will have another chance tomorrow. Nobody knows what tomorrow's second half will be, so we need to keep working hard and be ready for it. ”
"Since the morning, I've not felt as comfortable [with the car] as I was yesterday. Unfortunately, track conditions are prone to major changes here, and you need to be good at adapting to them quickly. The crash itself wasn't the key, it was more about the feeling: unlike today, yesterday (on Friday) felt good. We need to be prepared for [Sunday's] warm-up, although the long lap penalty (note: he was fouled on Friday's PR) will definitely have an impact on my game. ”
