Tip of the iceberg
In 1912, Hou Dong'e was born in Jingui Village, Shanxi. As she grew older, her beauty was as gorgeous as a blooming flower, and her reputation spread throughout the country, and people affectionately called her "Gaishanxi".
As an adult, Hou Dong'e naturally attracted many suitors, and the threshold of her family was about to be broken by the proposed person. In the end, her parents chose Li Shuangxi from Gaozhuang Village as their son-in-law. Li Shuangxi is tall and mighty, his skin is dark and bright, and his smile is extraordinarily warm, and Hou Dong'e is full of joy for him. The days after marriage are sweet and warm, and the arrival of a son and a daughter makes the family even more happy.
However, this peaceful life was shattered by the Japanese invasion. In the face of the country's catastrophe, Li Shuangxi had the idea of joining the army in his heart, but he couldn't let go of his relatives at home. Hou Dong'e saw her husband's thoughts, and she clearly encouraged her husband to join the army and defend the country. With the encouragement of his wife, Li Shuangxi resolutely signed up for the army. After her husband left, Hou Dong'e was not idle, she kept the house in order, and actively organized women in the village to publicize anti-Japanese knowledge. Her efforts were recognized by the villagers and she was elected as the director of the Women's Relief Society. As soon as she heard the horn of the enemy's attack, she would immediately take the villagers to hide in the mountains.
During a Japanese army search village, in order to transfer parents and children, Hou Dong'e was discovered and arrested by the Japanese army before she could hide it. She was carried on her shoulders like a sandbag by the Japanese soldiers, crying and shouting, and the villagers tried to save her but were knocked down by the Japanese soldiers with guns. The Japanese puppet army claimed that Hou Dong'e was the person named by the imperial army, and the villagers could only watch her being dragged away by the Japanese army on the back of a donkey. When she arrived at the base, she was sent directly to the house of Ito, a Japanese officer. Ito tried to spoil her, but Hou Dong'e tried his best to resist, but it angered Ito. Ito pinned her to the ground and slapped her several times, and under the violent beating, Hou Dong'e quickly lost consciousness. When she woke up, she had already suffered from Ito's abuse. For the next few days, she was stripped naked and locked in Ito's house, and every night, when Ito returned, he beat and raped her.
A few days later, Ito loses interest in her and is thrown into a large room with other women who have had the same fate as her. These women are of different ages, the youngest is only twelve or thirteen years old, and they are raped by different Japanese people every day, and Hou Dong'e is coveted by many Japanese devils because of her beauty. They waited outside the house in line like demons, and there were up to fifty people at a time. At this time, Hou Dong'e, her daughter was just two months old, her body was still in the postpartum period of weakness, under the torture of the Japanese army, her body completely collapsed, and she had more air in and less air.
Fortunately, the organization did not give up on rescuing her. On a quiet night, the organization sent someone to buy off the puppet Japanese army and handed her a small piece of opium. Hou Dong'e did not hesitate to obey, and the Japanese thought she was dying, so they wrapped her in rags and threw her outside Gaozhuang Village. The villagers hurriedly carried her home for treatment. When she got home, her first instinct when she opened her eyes was to look for her child, however, she only saw her eldest son, and when she learned that her daughter had starved to death, the news was like a thunderbolt from the sky that made her fall into a coma again. With the help of his family, he recuperated and picked up his hoe to work in the field again.
However, the Japanese did not let her go. When she could go to work in the fields, the Japanese took her away again and took her back to the hellish turret. There, she continued to suffer inhuman torture, her body was too weak, and more than 100 days of brutal ravages left her with only her last breath. The Japan devil was tired of playing with her body, and was afraid that her death in the house would bring the virus, so he informed her family to ransom people with money. The family raised enough money to take Hou Dong'e, who was unconscious, back home.
She was lucky that death didn't take her life. But unfortunately, she found out that she was pregnant, and the father of the child was Japan. This child seemed to be a symbol of her shame, she tried her best to get rid of this child, she did not wait for her body to recover and went to work in the field, carrying water and chopping wood, but the child just wouldn't fall off. She still didn't give up, continued to toss herself, and finally the child was gone, and she completely lost her fertility due to severe physical losses. Every night, she would cry for her misfortune, for her daughter, and for her husband, who did not know life or death.
In 1945, Japan declared defeat. Her husband Li Shuangxi came back, and after learning of the situation, he scolded her with his head and face, disgusted that she was dirty, and finally pulled up his son and slammed the door. A woman insisted on living until now by relying on family affection, but was abandoned by her husband and became destitute. She remarried twice, and her last husband died before her, and in her later years she was lonely and lived in a cold and narrow cave.
In the late autumn of 1982, Zhang Shuangbing, a new teacher at Gaozhuang Village Primary School, happened to see Hou Dong'e working in the fields. The figure of this sixty-year-old lady touched him deeply, and he visited Hou Dong'e several times in the years since. With Zhang Shuangbing's encouragement, Hou Dong'e rekindled her hope that at least 200,000 Chinese women who had been forced into sex slavery by the Japanese army during Japan's war of aggression against China would bring the Japanese to justice. However, until 1994, when she closed her eyes forever in a cold cave at the age of 73, she could not wait for an apology from the Japanese. War has brought people not only gunsmoke and artillery fire, but also endless physical and mental torture to ordinary people, which has left a deep scar on the picture scroll of history, so that future generations will always remember that painful time.
